Suzuki GSX1300R Hayabusa build FINISHED

Post by Davethepitch »

I know all my bikes at this stage looks the same but this engine has been painted in Titanium gold instead of semi gloss black like Tamiya say and i am going to attempt the silver and blue paint scheme and if that fails my plan B is just silver.

I have painted a blue band around the edge of the wheels which will match some of the panels but i am not sure whether it looks ok or just paint them black again so criticism or comments welcolme.

Well i tried my best without using the mask supplied to make the blue shape and made a pigs ear of it :( so i will just apply a clear gloss coat finish the rest of the black paintwork and apply the decals.

I had a sleep on it and decided to sand down the side fairings and tank and redo all the paint pattern but higher up like on the box.

I took a fair few hours of sanding and masking free hand using 2mm Tamiya tape and then airbrushing but at least i think i am getting somewhere now.

What was it that put you off using the masks in the kit ? It is a bit of time to cut them out but i've always found them to be spot on.
Looking good though, thats quite tricky to mask free hand :thumb1:

Hi Johnj

On a model a while ago i tried using the mask sheet and found that the paint bled underneath and pulled of a bit of the paint as well and i have not used them since and i will admit it was very tricky getting the shape free hand with tape on this bike and i just need to clear coat the painting i have redone and paint the mirrors and then it will be ready for decals.

This has been the hardest paint job i have done up to yet and the masks out of the two kits are unused.

I am not as happy with this build as i have been with my others as this has some little blemishes and the gloss is to shiney (because i am not good enough) but at least i have tried my best to get the Hayabusa something like

Hi Paul

I just brushed on Tamiya clear X22 and I fancy doing a Tamiya 14098 Yamaha YZR-M1 2004 Rossi 1:12
