first ism entry 1:144 Real Grade Sinanju (gundam)

Post by batcode »

hi all this will be my first ever wip and entry to any sigs/gbs on here so hope to start well!!

another first will be that i have done 1-2 hg kits before though not very well... this is the first RG that i have owned and will build and looks very nice indeed, the finish on the red parts is fantastic so glossy...and does have a lot of sprues. just ashame some aircraft kits and armour dont have the same¬!!!!

i do have several other gundams in the stash all hgs and 20 macross kits but only a couple are in gerwalk mode...but may try do another if this goes well, so on to pictures::::

had a mess around today with doing a couple of color samples....
i did a pair black based and 2 without then gave all a coat of alclad chrome, followed by again alclads
on the left in pairs is hot metal red and the right is transparent red which i think seems the better, ignore the middle spoon as did both shades on it..

Ooh, nice. The cool thing about this one is the gold bits, the pieces they slot into make it so much nicer than raised detail or a decals.

no what to say but wow,,, made a start and a couple of times felt out of my depth, especially with amount of parts per limb etc.......
got the frame put together then broke down and painted, first a black base then with some ak metals and alclad. would liked to off painted more at once but ran out of holders even though have 40 of them lol.

heres what looks like at moment, though did reilise after making sure got the metalics looking good that wont see it lol....
if can todays plan is to paint the bits already on the holders and hope start painting the armour but will have be in batches as so many pieces (3 sprues full)

Excellent start! I think it's easy to dismiss how much work it can be to paint these up if you've never done it. RG s in particular ;)

got some more the frame done then made a start on the Armour....
Image
Image

.ok really the plastic oob is very good and has a fantastic finish to it..
Image

but i want try do something i have never done before and try get a more realistic look and try do a metallic red... for this i sprayed all the bits well just one leg and waist plates as so many pieces.... then sprayed them chrome followed by alclad transparent red which took near on 2 hours
Image
Image

but am fairly happy with it ok few bits will need re doing, but mostly they all seem the same colour and have a nice metallic look.. just got another 30+ pieces to paint and by the end of it i will be having a break from metallic finishes lol

no surprise found another day mostly painting metals lol......must admit this must be the most time consuming paint job i have done on a model so far....

so more of the armor had to be redone and a few last bits of frame work, but for some reason and id nothing different at all the chrome went down a lot more shiny then the first batch???? same airbrush same pressures etc so bit weird...

heres where got to the other night as when went go bed couldn't resist fitting the armor see how looked...
Image
Image

and heres what done yesterday...
Image
Image
Image

and at the end of 5-6 hours of airbrushing this is where i found my self end of play last night,,,well after the red had dries couldnt resist so at around 11 last night fitted most togther lol...

Image
Image
Image
Image
Image

got last 50 or so pieces do paint today then hope have it all assembled by the end of the night, just debating if need to paint the white boosters??? then just need to find where put 1 of the gundam stands i have brought and put somewhere that can remember lol

Oh man that's slick. I wouldn't worry about the shiny, maybe it looks different in person but in the pics it's not that noticeable. Though it is a lesson I learned already, paint symmetrical parts in batches so if there's some variation it's at least even ;)

got on with the last lot of paint thankfully lol.......must admin these were long paint sessions.
Image

decided to redo the white but in matt then add a very slight pin wash, which did look better and helped give it a bit of balance i think instead everything being gloss finish...
after the paint had dried was on to assembly and did find few fit issues and also some terrible joint fits...

Image
Image
next step is the decals , and instead using the stickers supplied have managed to find some decals and are on way to me so hopefully be finished by end of the week.

Do you have a stand for it? I've heard the RG Sinanju can be a bit tough to stand up on its own all loaded up with weapons, backpack.

Love the Thunderbolts, after a Night Stalkers myself. Also, that SVF-124 is a hard one to find these days...awesome, awesome stash!

(Stick around, if I get another Sci-fi SiG off this summer I'm planning on doing either a VF-1 Black Aces or 1/48 Strike Valkyrie. Be neat to have more Macross in the build!)

Yeah, the trouble with Bandai Macross is they all (mostly) transform, so they're fiddly as hell. Haven't tried a Hasegawa kit yet, but they are static so should assemble like any other jet.

built both, the bandai one as you say transforms but try and bits snap but nothing is a fit especialy in jet mode..
the hasegawa kits are there normal tradition of being a great kit, some ways id say better than some the aircraft kits....but the decals can be apain as bit thin
