Eduard self adhesive PE.

Post by digger303 »

I bought the above a 2 months ago and it has 2015 stamped on it. The backing paper seems to come off real easy almost falling off and as soon as I try to cut a piece loose the backing does fall right off.
There seems to be no adhesive qualities at all is this normal with this type of PE.:
I wouldn't have thought so.....so does it have a short self life ??

I've only used the SA stuff a couple of times. The backing was very easy to remove, but the PE still stuck down fine, which was my only concern. Have you tried placing it yet?

After all, it's supposed to stick to the model, not the paper;)

I found the same, but it didn't have any problems sticking to the model.

The "glue" on the back of Eduards PE only work, as in really sticks and stays on, if its fresh.
Over time it dries and eventually loses its adhesiveness and the part comes loose. Which You discovered. (glue dried)
Therefore I never use the PE with the Eduard glue.
Reason one is the abovementioned and reason two because it grips instantly and that's it, no way of positioning, re-positioning, second thoughts.
If committed it stays, right or wrong. If you try to remove it will bend and be scrapped.
I just dip a cotton bud in IPA and wipe it off and then use CA or PVA glue to attach it. (be careful on colour PE with the IPA)
The advantage is that You have plenty of time to carefully position stuff, and if You use PVA on IPs you get the "glass" on the instruments in the process.
Also on the self adhesive frets some parts can be with glue and some without intentionally depending on what it is.

I found the same with the sub build, the self-adhesive PE piece wasn't super tacky over about half of it but I got it down eventually with the tiniest smear of CA across the dried out bit. Like, tiny. As in I think I let the PE look at the bottle tiny. Just a bit on the tip of a cocktail stick and slid over the dry part of the PE to give it some kick to lay down.

But I think I lucked out on that one. YMMV.

Personally, I'd like to see Eduard return to just the brass frets with no pre-painted or self adhesive versions but then again, it has been mentioned, once or twice, that I am slightly odd :D

I did fnd that acetone or IP did actually reactivate the glue, but I did remove it. It did not come easy.
