K & R Replicas white metal 1/43 Ford Escort Mk4 Rs Turbo

Post by Paul »

Ok so as I've got a couple of weeks until the Cold War era GB starts, and as I'm well ahead on the f4u videos. I've nothing on the go modelling wise at the moment.

So I got this a few weeks ago in a joblot of modelling stuff (same one that judge dredd abc robot was in) it's been started a tiny bit, the previous owner has tried to make twin headlights for the front lol.

Btw here comes some waffle

Although its an Rs turbo, I did own a mk4 xr3i for a few months many years ago and although its was one of the most unreliable cars I've ever owned it was one of the best too. Not the fastest of cars but damn it handled well. The XR3i is basically the same car as the Rs with different wheels, suspension seats and no turbo and bonnet vents being the main differences. My xr3i had the Rs wheels and suspension so this makes a good base for it.

It's missing a few parts, the company is still going so ill email them and see if they can supply me those as well as the xr3i rear sticker.

Oh and I plan to build this in two weeks too :th:

So the kit.

Nice detailed instructions

Image

The kit itself, as you can see I need a new tyre plus several other small parts

Image

Body shell with the vents I need to try to remove.

Image

Image

Wouldn't be a build of mine with out reference material, move got alot of old fast ford brochures and adverts so this is ideal.

Image

Mine will be black and with no spot lights

Recaro seats

Bit more on this tonight.

The bonnet vents are now filled and sanded, need a dab of primer to ensure they are fully sorted

Also started filling in the headlights, which are gonna be a right nightmare

Image

The floor pan was sprayed alclad gloss black and the exhausts sprayed in steel

Image

The rs wheels were, also primed in alclad GBB and then sprayed alclad aluminium.

Image

I sprayed the interior light grey and the seats darker grey, thes centres will be Hand brush painted.

Image

A night of priming and painting

I usually like my Fords to be of the horse badged variety but this has piqued my interest

Cheers Michael

Got the interior painted and glued in position.

I painted it using various shades of grey and black vallejo model colour, its a very basic interior but it represents it well, still missing my handbrake hopefully i can get a replacement or ill have to make one.
Image
Image

I then drilled out the filler the previous owner had put into the headlight slots using my mini driller, you can see the headlight piece in front.

Image

This is now glued in position needing a little filler.

Ok so it's all filled and sanded, got the headlights as good as I could. Rear lights, and wing mirrors on too.

Tamiya rattle can primer 1st coat was then taken back with 2500 grade wet and dry

Image

Image

2nd primer coat done, lightly taken back as the first was

Image

And then the 1 st coat of ford gloss black (car rattle can)

So 2nd gloss black coat applied the ford badge decals and then a gloss coat using TS 13 tamiya rattle can clear. Still got the lights to paint, but I'm waiting on if I can get the spare parts from K&R themselves the haven't replied to my message yet.

Gloss came out ok so happy with that.

Really wanted to get this finished tonight too.

It needs a tyre, the handbrake, 2 axles and a new glass vacform set. i could have got away with it all bar the glass as the prevoius owner must have masked it god knows what as i cant get the residue off.

Cheer btw nige :th:

I will defo be getting the s1 soon, very easy kits to build just not cheap at £33

Hey! I am so sorry for bringing such an old thread back from the past but that mini drill under the Ford Escort in the image.. I have a family member that is looking high and low for another one almost exactly like it. What can you tell me about that mini driller? The closest analog to that drill is a Beadalon Bead reamer, but the version my father had, had a drill chuck on his and a metal button to stop the chuck. I am looking high and low for anything that will help me find one like he had. again, please forgive me but I am trying to help a fellow Modeler and a family member.
