Whereas my bench is empty except for a Stug that need weathering (and I'm hoping to get that done tonight.

That said my Merkava III for Aaron Newlands Isreali Youtube GB is ready to be opened as is the Saab J21A sent to me by Rob.

Right I`m up for this, I've just been and purchased a Revel 1/72 Vampire.
The last 1/72 aircraft kit I purchased and built was 1/72 spitfire from RAF Cosford in 1981. and I was a spritely 12 years old and had just joined the ATC.
Kits were a bit cheaper then

I aim to get the thing built without sticking the thing to me ,the table or getting glue on my hands or paint on my face.
I wont upset my mum, but will probably lavish hours upon it and upset the wife instead!

I started reading from the top and my head started spinning !

maybe its old age ?

so why do you say no to stuff that is from the ERA !
the cold war wasn't just between NATO and USSR !

Both super powers supported a s h i t load of 3rd world countries... with current or older vehicles... in order to dominate the Geo-political map ! and all crises during that period of time should be included !
That's my take on the COLD WAR era !

I deeply think that what ever Rolled,Floated,Flew or shot thrum the sky during that Time Period should qualify !
it would open up so much more possibilities...

Talk over it guys and either make a compromise or stand your grounds Either way... I have enough Yanks or Russian stuff to keep me going for ions ! but I am afraid we might miss out on some incredible machines... if we don't see the bigger picture !

Anyway.... that was my 2 Canuck cents worth !

Guys, iIt's quite simple, the Cold War was between East and West yes? There were pacts made by the USSR and America (the two aggressors) being the Warsaw Pact and NATO, which included many, many countries over many, many years. If that doesn't give you enough scope to build a model then I'm lost for words!

Having studied the Cold War in considerable detail I can say that simplifying/ limiting the GB to the Warsaw Pact and NATO is the best way to set the guidelines while keeping it enjoyable, which is the most important part.

Maybe in the future we could do a Middle East GB etc.

There are some iconic builds from this period....Centurion, Chieftain, Alvis 6x6, Harrier, Phantom, Tu95, MIG15 - Mig 25, A4 Skyhawk, F105, T55, T60, T80, BMP1,2,3, BTR60, 70, 80, M14, M16, Leopard, etc, etc, etc I think that restricting the build to NATO Warsaw pact is a good idea.

I think putting any restrictions would be rather pointless, just like Schweinhund said - probably 90% , maybe even more, armament around the world in this times were of either NATO countries or WP countries origins...
Whether it was Korea, Vietnam, Afghanistan, Falklands, Israeli (well... until they developed Merkava

) or African conflicts ... it was always a kind of NATO against WP weaponry (including sometimes also presence "supervisors"

)...

The prettiest of all aircraft Greg, I'm doing one at the moment mate. Not a brilliant kit, in my opinion, I've managed to break the undercarriage twice now, but she's such a lovely little thing it doesn't really matter.... Enjoy it mate

I think the point is that the kit in question is designed, built and operated by either a NATO or WP country, and is in the markings of said country to qualify. I do appreciate that a lot of the bush conflicts of the era were supplied by either NATO or WP countries (and continue to be supplied in the same way) but counties such as Israel, Syria, Egypt, South Africa, Lebanon etc were not signatories to either NATO or the WP.

Haha yeah not got anything. But I have a specific idea so going to go with that, will just save what cash I can to get the bits I need. 4 months is plenty time for me to build what I have in mind, so I don't mind starting a month or so into the 4 months.

Have the idea of getting the new Airfix Harrier GR1 and making another diorama with it, I totaled up what the parts are likely to cost me from Models R Go and its under £30, so not a huge amount of money. Its just that at this moment I don't have that, but once this PhD is finished (hopefully by the end of September) I can really start looking for work, and even try to pick up some part time work in the meantime and I am sure I can manage to get a spare £30 sometime over the next 4 months! lol.
