Air Brush Which To Buy?

Post by Warren »

I am about to buy my first air brush. I know there are numerous models etc., but I have been looking at the IWATA High Performance Plus C
Dual Action Gravity Feed air brush which sells for US$169 at Amazon.

I am not looking for perfection, but rather a good air brush which will do a decent job.

Is this IWATA a good choice for the price? I am not looking to spend US$400 on an air brush since I do not build that many models.

Your opinions will be most appreciated.

Thanks.

I have the Iwata hp c plus. It is an excellant airbrush though you are paying a lot of money for occasional use.

Might want to look at the Apex by ultimate as well, I have started to use it and has become my go too brush. I have no ties to ultimate I just use stuff that works :thumb2:

Not knowing where you are from, but assuming USA. How about Paarsch, because it is local....spares etc
AB's are like paint brushes one size doesn't fit all . Ultimate sells a AB with a different needle that I have heard some good things about and may fit the bill.
Lot's of people like Iwata and it is a top brand. You didn't say what you will be building nor what scale. It affects how much paint you need to spray to get good coverage. :cheers2:

I'm still relatively new to this airbrushing lark but at the risk of being labelled a Ultimate fan-boy the Apex is the brush I wish had been available when I started looking around - I've had no problems with it at all.

While not an endorsement of a brand etc., check out the Budzik series on brushes to learn about which brush is best for what. It helps to know what specs you're after:

Otherwise I'd suggest an Iwata HP, either the HP-CS (which I use) or the HP-C (which others have already suggested) as they are complete workhorses. Alternatively you could look into the Ultimate Apex as it was custom designed to meet a wide range of needs and ease of use.

You're going to get many answers depending on others experiences and preferences, but for your first and maybe only airbrush for a while, you do need a workhorse as the choices above.

My preference is the Badger Patriot 105, and with the Super Detail needle set you can do almost anything. But being a relative 'noob' my experience is limited. If I was going to buy all over again I'd go for either the Patriot or Ultimate Apex.

Gentlemen,
Thank you all for your comments. I have decided on the Iwata HP-C Plus. It sells for US$170 at Amazon. I saw a video on this web site by, I believe ,Paul, and he said it was one of his favorite.

Further to my previous comment, in answer to a question, I live in the USA, and I model 1/35 scale tanks, 1/48 scale aircraft, on occasion 1/32 scale.
