Paper tissue and cotton buds wetted with good old fashioned tap water. The wetter the wipe, the cleaner the surface afterwards.

Thanks a ton for the info! I checked out Paul's tutorial on it and literally immediately bought me some.

Sorry for the Finnish in the image, I chose colours "mud" and "dark dirt". Also decided to test the airbrush cleaner for acrylic colours.

Cleaned up the rest of the wash today, then went to work on the tracks. I dry brushed Vallejo's metal colour dark aluminium on the raised parts of the tracks to show contact wear. I think the dry brushing is just a touch underdone, I may add a little more to really shine them up.

It weighs a ton now!!!





Thinking about applying a dark wash to the inner parts of the tracks, not sure yet.

Finally installed the bow mg, originally it was a full interior detail piece (don't know why) that was installed from the inside out. I just cut the end off and glued it in the hole - I'm a simple man!



AND - finally fixed the co-ax! Drilled a 0.5mm hole in the port and popped the mg stub in with some CA. Icing on the cake was I was able to drill the muzzle out with a 0.4mm bit so it will look beautiful with a little dry brushing after its painted.



Feeling rather chuffed, I stopped at this point because I was certain I had peaked, achievement wise!

It looks really quite damn good. I especially like the missing fender. I tried to imitate that on a Jagdtiger I was building but then I managed to break off a track hanger. I'm absolutely gutted that I've wrecked the last 3 tanks I've been working on. I especially love how those exhaust guards turned out!

Re the missing fender I am so glad I took it off. Its great to try and show the effects of the fender having been there at some point and its also cool because you get to see more of the tracks. I have a RFM Gruppe Fehrmann Tiger in the stash and that has NO side fenders at all. Its not on the radar just yet but when it is, I reckon it will be great working on the sides and tracks, trying to really show everything off.

So I reckon we are all FINISHED!

First up was painting the mgs and beefing up the rust effects. As expected, the additional rust work, specifically the wipe down with the low odour turpenoid, has matted the finish around the rust streaks and is quite visible. But all is not lost as I've decided to finish with a matte varnish so it will all disappear.











I love the methodology of the weathering process, working out the order of things and making sure the various products don't react to each other. I sought advice about when to do the rust work as I knew if I did it after the gloss and wash it would ruin the finish I was looking for. After back and forth, both here and on FB, it became evident that a matte coat would probably finish the kit so I was then free to do the rust first then adjust it AFTER the wash. Its nice to learn something new with every build. it doesn't always happen but it did here.

And here's the finish. A touch of dry brushing on the mgs and a lightly misted matte coat using AK's Ultra Matt - lovely stuff.

Earlier in the day I cleaned up more of the wash from the rear end as there was still far too much there - particularly on the main rear wall. Also, those hellish 'chips' on the filter box have finally been consigned to the dustbin of history.



I also added some stains to the rear deck. Harry Hun must have fallen over while carrying a bucket of nasty stuff at some point.



The rust work seems to have stayed vibrant enough under the varnish, there's always a worry with clears that detail tends to soften a bit.

Everything seemed to click with this one. I enjoyed the challenge of the build and was glad I took my time with the paint and weathering.
