I couldn't find much history on this subject so i will post it here.

The Ducati 888 was a motorcycle manufactured by Ducati as an upgrade to the Ducati 851. The earlier 851 had introduced liquid cooling, computerized fuel injection and four-valve heads to the company's two cylinder motors. In 1991 Ducati increased the capacity of the 851 to 888 cc to create the 888. Both engines featured the Desmoquattro valvetrain concept in which a four valve per cylinder motor was given desmodromic valve actuation, with cams both opening and closing the valves. Ducati's desmodromic system reduces the frictional penalty from conventional valve springs.
Riding the Ducati 888, Doug Polen won first place in the 1991 and 1992 World Superbike Championships. After losing to Kawasaki in the 1993 World Superbike Championship, Ducati ceased production of the Ducati 888 and released the Ducati 916 which had a larger engine capacity.
Continuing refinement yielded the next two generations of the Ducati Desmoquattro superbike, resulting in the 916/996 and 999 lines.
In a 1993 road test of the 888SPO, Cycle World measured a 0 to 1⁄4 mile (0.00 to 0.40 km) time of 11.25 seconds at 123.45 mph (198.67 km/h), and a 0 to 60 mph (0 to 97 km/h) acceleration of 3.3 seconds. They measured a top speed of 152 mph (245 km/h) and a braking distance of 60 to 0 mph (97 to 0 km/h) of 123 ft (37 m). The wet weight of their test bike was 497 lb (225 kg) and the rear-wheel horsepower was 94.0 hp (70.1 kW) at 8,740 rpm, and torque was 59.4 lb⋅ft (80.5 N⋅m) at 7,000 rpm.
Ducati said the 1992 racing version of the 888, the SBK had a dry weight of 142 kg (313 lb) and 134 hp (100 kW) at 12,000 rpm, and was capable of a top speed of more than 290 km/h (180 mph).

Just one thing to watch so far I have had the chrome parts in a bath of bleech over night now one side of the sprue stripped in about 10 minutes the other side no change as yet

Update use oven cleaner on the chrome sprue works a treat

So first things first stripping the chrome parts in a bath of bleech.

After about 10 minutes one side was stripped but not the other so i left it in the bleech over night and it was still the same.

So on to plan B the chrome sprue was left to soak in oven cleaner and within abut 3 hours it was all stripped.

With that sorted it's time to get on with the build.
The rear damper and frame assembly these parts will need to be painted before putting them together

The frame will be fun to paint as it is painted in white and aluminium before any detail painting.
So i'm thinking painting X-2 over Ultimate white primer and when that is dry masking off the white and priming in Ultimate gloss black primer for the aluminium and also leaving the gloss black primer as the semi black gloss finish where needed.

With the white dry it's all masked up.

While all the engine parts were drying with the gloss black primer i decided to mix up some of the colour that will be needed mainly to keep the colour constant without mixing more when needed.

Right with all those parts painted up when dry they will be assembled

The paints i used for this are:- AK Xtreme metal polished aluminium, Tamiya X-8 lemon yellow, X-11 chrome silver, X-11 chrome silver +X-6 orange mix, X-2 white, X-18 semi gloss black, XF-1 flat black, XF-5 flat green, X-11 chrome silver +X-12 gold leaf mix, XF-2 flat white + XF-10 flat brown mix.

I am an oven cleaner kinda guy too, it just works
Hmm I need to get some clean glass paint bottles like that. Seems when I mix paint, I either don’t store it properly or don’t make enough.

That's an excellent finish on the frame and engine with AK Xtreme, I've had very hit and miss results with mine DId you use the base black, what needle, pressure and did you dust coat building them up or wet coat?

Yes mate i used Ultimate gloss black primer

There are 4 small screws that hold the engine in place

With that in place i will work on the exhausts
When cutting off the exhaust parts i have left the little tabs on until they have been glued together and set then they will be sanded smooth. These are now glued and clamped until dry.

Now set the seams have been sanded and there is just a spot of filling needed for this i will use sprue goo.

While this cures i will clean up the the radiator and the hoses, all cleaned up and ready for priming

Now on to the parts for the swing arm including the chain, now most of the parts for this are the stripped chrome parts and there is no colour indicated for these in the instructions so i will be painting them in AK Xtreme chrome.

The parts for the rear wheel all cleaned up and will be primed in Ultimate gloss black at the same time.

The paints used are Tamiya X-11 silver + X-6 orange mix, AK xtreme metal polished aluminium and chrome, X-18 semi gloss black, X-1 black, XF-56 metallic grey and X-11 silver + X-12 gold leaf mix.

Now these are dry i will place the decals on before assembling these using warm water, micro set and sol and some solvaset.
After painting the mufflers i realised that there are some carbon decals to go on these.

Right moving on there is a centre seam line on the tyre that will need to be sanded away so this will give the tyre a worn look to it.

Right all these parts have been primed in Ultimate white and gloss black and are awaiting there colours.

The front forks, handlebars, battery and meter panel have now all been painted using AK Xtreme chrome, AK Xtreme polished aluminium, Tamiya XF-2 white, X-11 silver + X-6 orange mix, X-18 semi gloss black, XF-56 metallic grey, X-11 silver
+ X-12 gold leaf mix, X-7 red, XF-1 flat black, X-4 blue and XF-8 flat blue.

Looking, well, looking like a motorcycle

This is the point where I get the flashback of my bike model and trying to wrestle the frame, engine, wiring etc etc into place with only two hands instead of six or eight.
Maybe I will let that Repsol Honda sit a while longer in the stash

Time to work on the front cowling and the seat/tank cowling, while i'm doing these i'm going to make up the stand as well so that they can be painted in the red at the same time.
While preparing these for primer i'm going to sort the parts for the front wheel as well.

Okay seam taken care of and now ready for priming using Ultimate gloss black and white primer. The white was used for the red parts except for the stand where i used the black primer for contrast I'm not sure but maybe i should of used grey primer for the red in hind sight.

Now the primer is dry it's time to add the colourand these are
AK Xtreme metal chrome, Tamiya X-7, red X-18 semi gloss black, X-27 clear red, X-10 gun metal and X-1 black.

The decals are now on and when cured they will be clear coated with alclad II clear gloss.

There was a small struggle to line up the screw holes for attaching the fuel tank but with a little pursuesion i got there.
