Heh. These days if you can dream it, someone will build it. I mean, *I* don't dream in pink bejeweled bots, But there it is.

I will say I really want to crack into the one I have, they are full of tasty details...

Ok who hijacked this thread with photos of all those nasty robots??? Dastardly muppets
I NEVER photo bomb threads or drive them off topic into silliness...not much anyways

Anyhow after you nasty lot of de-threaders have altered my threads, probably in cahoots with the Evil That Is Photobucket, I present more of the actual house build

My wood workshop:
Still is a bit rough and messy at the moment, been 'casing' the window to finish it off.
You can see the row of plugs that run around the edge that a L-shaped work desk will be made for
Image

I finished the case edging on this hall door, all painted and ready to go...loved using the electric nail gun I got for Christmas
Image

Lots of metal cabinets to organize up and then some shelving to make in between, but it is coming along

Now for the yard
The landscape guys have been busy getting the levels done, soil in and sand for areas that will be artificial turf and a little putting green

Photo leaning over deck rail looking North to the neighbour...10 ft cedar trees going along the fence, hopeful a hot tub in a gazebo on a pad just off the fence line
Image

Now looking South, this will have a kidney bean shaped putting green of fake grass
Image

Looking up to the front door, the pathway will be moss and large flat stepping stones. We left temporarily have left off the fencing of the yard here to allow the Bobcat machinery to get in and out. All the neighbours I am sure are wondering what the heck we are doing
Image

Lots of you English folk are gardeners, as am I.....getting excited to have all our plants in pots planted out again.
My artsy shot of setting sun through "The Old General" a big rhododendron tree and a fading Hydrangea that survived the house construction in situ.
We get some great sunsets off this south side
Image

I have a little flat spot of gravel on the East side that can house a bee hive
I am hoping to sponsor a hive after they are done in the fields and move towards having my own bees
:cheers2: for seeing something a bit different from models

But the house is coming along really well - love the way the landscaping is coming together outside too.

That's looking cool. It's almost like you wanted a nail gun and built a house to justify it 8-)

Digging the yard! My least favorite household chore, but my favorite to watch other people do.

Alluded to spending more time on finishing the workshop than starting another model build when I posted my reveal for Space shuttle
I spent most of Monday, after snow tires and errands, working on the shop window.
Here is the progression.
Rough construction finished, floors and walls in by contractors:
Image

Window ledges boxed in by me:
Image

Framing the window with mitred boards:
Image
I have some dark tinting material I want to apply to these windows so no peepers can look in

SO through the weeknights I will be filling and sanding and painting the joints on these frames...sounds like modelling, no??
As you can see in the last pic there is a lovely external vent though the wall on the right side, perfect for a spray booth.
My upstairs modelling room has no such vent as it was disallowed by a mean female ogre type person who "doesn't want anymore holes in the house"
So I am pondering making the upstairs room as the clean modelling room, the downstairs as a hand tool, painting, messy room and then keeping the larger woodworking machinery in the garage that is adjacent the lower workshop.
Tough making these decisions and lots of work to get them all organized and ship shape.
Cry for me ;)

ps yes I got to use the nail gun again....FANTASTIC!!!

Ahh the saw.....well I jammed out on it for now. It is just a bit too spendy at the moment and I do have a birthday coming up so will let the wife and son decide if I am worthy.

Thank you for the tight joint comment, I worked pretty hard closing them. The joints are all puttied so look pretty good.....four corner mitres and eight butt joints plus all the nail holes, worse than an Airfix fuselage seam ;) Joints looked pretty good after first sanding but I will do a small re-fill, sand and prime before painting.

I cheated on the mitres and cut four small 90* corners on the table saw and then joined the longer sections in between those. This allowed me to use the table saw as it is easier to handle a 2 foot board than a 8 foot one. Also, the long top and bottom 8 foot boards were just short of me being able to do a proper mitre joint on them so I needed to either return them and get 10 foot ones or do a joint. So I chose the latter cause I hate shopping.
Hope to get her finished before the weekend so I can get to modelling again, but busy week

Re: Building a new hobby space...oh and a house too

Wow I haven’t posted into here since October! Posting to get more current and motivated
We fought a moderate snowy winter and the house is still standing
Image

Both rooms are still works in progress thought I have settled into the upstairs room for modelling and the main floor workshop as the woodworking and big construction room. Cutting wood in the driveway as I pull the saw out of the garage.

Made a paint shelf
Image
Immediately the rack was filled and another will need to be made
Image

Played with some LED strip lights
Image

Currently working hard to finish a mailbox mounting and some shelving in the wood shop

I spent most of my Easter Sunday adding details to the front of the house.
As much as a yellow egg carton makes a fashionable mail box, apparently we need a proper one attatched to the house. Yellow egg carton has been our mail box for over a year
Apparently I didn’t take a before photo, nor can find the after ones for that matter. Here, look on the other side of the beemer :shifty:
Image
I also managed to pull the doorbell right off the stucco in an ill advised ‘lean over’ using the little doorbell as support...or lack there of. I still have a scar on my right forearm from the fall into the nasty rosebush to prove to me that I need proper backing to hold these items on the house stucco siding.

Well my photos have bailed on me....will take some when the sun rises. Sorry

The doorbell needed to be powered down so I could remove it and slide the backing into place.
After a good two hours flipping breaker switches the damn thing still tested live. Even turned off power for the whole darn house!!!
Calls to install contractor guy came up with nothing...”just shut off the breaker”
So I did it with live wires. Covered them separately in tape and wrapped them individually. Not the safest, but that was what needed to be done.
Pics when I find them  :

You would not believe how many people walk past and say something about the egg crate mailbox.
The final straw was the Neanderthal cable line guy who made a crack about it while they spoiled what was supposed to be a quiet Good Friday morning of modelling. So I made the backings, painted everything and with help of the helpful boy, found studs and leveled it all out.
Now no more ridicule.

Its been tried and tested, it works! So don't blame the system if you're no good.

Sorry I meant working with live power.
Ahh, I get it
My pop was an electrician and did stuff with live power all the time, I thought he was nuts
I covered everything Metal when I took off the hot lead and did the same for the other.
I got lucky, not even a spark. Not the way to do it though.

I would get fried for sure, do stuff without thinking all the time. :( got a few scars. Put a power saw through my leg when my son interrupted me. Totally my fault for not putting it down.

The outside views of the house are stunning - really picturesque

I've had a healthy respect for electrics from when I was helping a sparky wire up a new school and there was an almighty bang and flash from outside... it was one of the pros from the electric company slicing through the mains feed. "I fort it was switched off" said the shaky dude with hair standing on end and only the handles left on his cutters...
Cheers, Neil

Just thought of a story told to me years ago... I qualified lecky was training a new apprentice anyway the story goes he was always telling him never touch any one who was obviously experiencing an electric shock, but help them as quick as was possible as time is of the essence.
Being a bit of a leg puller he yelled out screaming and hanging on to a bit of spare cable. The young bloke being a really quick thinker grabs a shovel and belts hell out of the bosses forearm. He falls to the ground really screaming now with a broken arm !
The boss never ever did that again.

I was enjoying the stunning pics until you got to the bees. Found myself wanting to run away, far away, and very fast!

Not a fan of bees :eeek:
