#34 PBM-5 Nightmare

So here is what I've finally settled on. Minicraft's 1/72 PBM-5 Mariner "Nightmare".

So, off to a rocky start already. While I was taking pictures of the sprues, my 3 year old helper decided to make off with a sprue and help me remove some parts! I did find them all. However, he did "help daddy" by removing the blades from the prop shafts! I cleaned them up and super glued them back together as best I could. I think we're good now. On another note, I have found that Eduard makes a colored PE set for the instrument panels that looks really nice. It even includes the turret panels! So I will be ordering that as well as a mask set. I've never used any aftermarket parts or PE, but I do know that I suck at painting cockpits, so fingers crossed. The kit itself looks really good. Lots of detail. Very fine though. I will have to be careful not to fill it up with paint. Nice kit though, love the subject, and looking forward to the build!!

Those things are huge! I've never seen a PBM-5 in person; but, I have seen a PB2Y Coronado and it's legit enormous.

It's bigger than I expected. Kit looks like about an 18 inch wingspan.

That is 1 interesting looking aircraft mate never built anything from MiniCraft but it looks pretty detailed as for young helpers I find super gluing them to their seats prevents unwanted interventions lol

So I just dropped about 50 bucks and ordered the rest of the stuff for the build! Got some colored PE from Eduard coming, canopy masks, and a few paints that I didn't have. Spent the extra money for fast shipping, so hopefully it won't be long before we start seeing some progress on this big fatherless person!!

My take on Minicraft. They have some very interesting subjects and they seem to be fairly accurate. And detail is not bad.

Fit on the other hand leaves a lot to be desired. Especially in the canopy to fuselage area. Hopefully it wont be too bad on this one. It will be interesting to see how it turns out.

on the trim wheels and rudder pedals. Probably never see them, but it was a learning experience!

Whatever doesn't kill you makes you stronger. That's what I tell myself when working with tiny bits of PE

Its a good skill to have and the right extras can really make a build come to life. Keep going mate, it'll be worth it.

Thanks guys! I did get it done. It's a little off, but maybe it wont be that obvious when I get the seats in. Better tweezers are next on my shopping list!

I don't mind the forming up of the pe. Its just trying to glue down in the correct place at the correct angle tiny bits like pedals that invariable get knocked off or bent to be done over. That's my frustration with pe.
