compressoe with air tank

Hi guys,

I am new beginner for airbrush painting. I decided to buy a compressor. There are 2 types here, with air tank or w/o air tank. Which one of them should be purchased

Depends how you work and how much you want to spend

A Compressor with tank will run until it fills the tank. The you are airbrushing using that stored air

The tankless compresssor runs to fill it’s own little reservoir and then continues to run when you start airbrushing, almost right away

So a storage tank in theory makes the compressor run less and so makes less noise. If you airbrush large things and use it a lot that would work
If you do just quick hits of airbrushing then a tankless one is fine.
I have a tankless compressor, but when it dies will move to one with a tank reservoir

There is one other thing . A tanked compressor has a even air pressure where as one with no tank tends to pulse the air pressure with each stroke of the piston. This isn't so noticeable when you have a small detail AB requiring little air, but a different AB with a higher air requirement will become noticeable. Having said that some tank less compressors have 2 pistons which mitigates this effect to a certain extent.
Two my mind a tank is essential . Some tanks are very small and are in the frame work of the compressor, but it makes a difference. A compressor with no tank as Scott says must run continuously...with the other then it stops ...cools..then restarts. It helps as well when in a high humidity climate to stop water bypassing your water trap..yep it can happen.
I personally use a el cheapo tanked version from a auto shop for $100 and run a air hose in from my garage and have a second regulator/water trap at my bench. Might be chinese , but I have had it for 7yrs now and the only issues I have had are the switching mechanism stopped working ( new one off ebay $25 ) and it developed a leak in the tank a pin hole. I drilled it out and the metal seemed thick enough so I put a self tapper screw in with a coating of CA glue to seal it and it's been good.
I guess that was more than one thing, but hey your head won't explode knowing a bit more
