Panzer query

This is a query to our resident Panzer experts, I've seen pictures of various panzers (upto the later Panzer IV's) with this piece of kit on the (usually) front upper skirt/mudguard and I haven't got a clue what it is.

That's the Notek lamp. Effectively a shielded light that allowed the way ahead to be illuminated, without the lamp being visible from above. I think that's about right.

I think Notek are the manufacturers and the more conventionally shaped lamps were by Bosch.

I've often thought the shape is a bit like a flattened German helmet.

This Notek light is actually a quite sophisticated construction, i just looked it up on Wikipedia.

You've got me intrigued, so I too have looked it up.

That front plate isn't often incorporated into kit parts, and would be a simple detail addition.
