So, What’s on the workbench for 2019???Progress through the year

We have done these threads almost every year...this year I will start it out .
It is funny , in a tragic sort of way, to revisit this in a few months and see what happens

So, 2019......
My overall modelling plan in 2019 is to finish everything I have started before beginning or buying any new kits. Period.
I am on a full kit-buying hiatus as my mojo and overall interest in modelling is suffering from dreaded “Toolargeastashitis” with an underlying case of “neverenoughtimeformyselfosis”.... These diseases cause the affected desire to the sell everything and bugger off away from modelling alltogether

My projects to complete:
1. WNW SE5a, the brown turd that needs rigging. Thanks to the manufacturer for such poor rigging diagrams

2. Ferrari F40 that has sat patiently waiting for over two years, partially made and deserves to be finished.

3. Porsche 911 convertible I have restored from a glue bomb with beautiful Miami blue paint...now the running gear needs to be redone

4. Ford transport truck in gulf regalia....ya well this one sucks the life out of ya completely. I want to take some stuff apart, strip all chrome and re-build the wheel assemblies to actually roll. It is a freaking nightmare of a kit.

There may be more, I am away from home still for a few days and will add any others on the weekend

Other stuff:

5. I am adding this Pocher 1/8 TestaRossa to the project list. It will be a longer term, in between other things kind of project



6. Space shuttle repair....she has gone a bit limp and needs some love. Might add more detail to the launchpad

Apparently I was having trouble figuring out the tower’s orientation



So I apologize if I am not in the GB’s and buddy builds, but I am trying to control myself a bit more. I will be posting my support for everyone.
I am fully planning on myself and Lysus (hopefully) doing a summer sci-fi regalia build.
Want to re-organize the workspaces and build some more shelving and such to reno the model workspaces a bit and hopefully get the mojo going.
I may do a bit more youTube work as well...but I am a smidge introverted, so likely just movies of my build pics and little of my voice or ugly mug.

That is my modelling to do list...how’s about yours??

2018 showed me that I just have not enough time for modelling (specifically painting).

My initial hopes for 2019 are to finish my Academy F-14, which is mostly painted, but still needs details done, decals and undercarriage.



I'm also continuing to work on my Panzerjager diorama, with work on the figures currently taking my focus.



Then there is the Grumman Martlet I started for Tomcat's 1/72 GB, which just needs some masking done before I can crack on with it.



Aside from those 3, I also started a 1/72 Phantom F4F in February last year, but I have no ideas on paint scheme for it, so i'm not feeling inspired by it at the moment.



I guess I just need to resist the fact that starting a new kit is the best part of this hobby, and that I have a couple that I really want to get cracking on

Does your SE5a still count in the GB? I'm sure we can 'relax' the rules slightly to give you time to finish!

As well as my 3 month old daughter to contend with, we are also planning on moving house in 2018, so it could well mean that my bench time is fairly limited this year, so I'm going to complete my entire stash (of 2!! ) in the first quarter of the year to de-clutter, and then see what takes my fancy after that.

A dedicated room for modelling in the new house is a prerequisite, so hopefully this time next year I will have a more respectable stash accumulating to choose from

So currently on the bench is a nice Tamiya 155 DTM to be painted in Jagermeister colours, and then a Tamiya Ducati for the wheeled GB.

Half built kits are the worst aren't they, good luck getting them all completed

Well I’m planning on getting the Brandenburg finished and then after that I have no plans, happy to see where modelling and builds takes me. I have not got any plans right now to do any group builds but if something takes my fancy and I can take part then I will be more than happy to join in.
I have had enough with putting pressure on my self. Now some times it can be good to push your self but just putting pressure doesn’t help the quality or my mood so pressure off build for my enjoyment
Now all that said I would like to get one of my Brit wnw kits done and one Fokker 7, but what happens happens

Other than that I really do not have much of anything pre-planned (smile).

I think that is a modelling right of passage, coming of age so to speak

You look like you need to crack out the airbrush and get some paint flying.
I use a lot of the Ultimate primers often as a final colour coat, sometimes mixed to my desired shade...that might save you a bit of extra painting as it seems to be your roadblock to finishing

I was fairly well disciplined build-wise last year and tried to make sure I only had one or two builds on the go at any one time, otherwise I'd have ended up with a collection of built but unpainted kits.

As a result the only hangover I have into this year is the Zvezda SU-27 which will hopefully be finished in another week or so


I'm trying not to start anything else until this one is done as I want to properly tidy up the bench and surrounding areas before the next build is underway.

Then it'll be a couple of pieces of German armour as my brother has asked me to build a Tiger I for him, and I'll also be building up this with Stokesy and any other like-minded Tank Hunters


I'd like to get something into the Wheels GB but not sure what at the moment - I've got a couple of car kits, a couple of armoured cars and I guess my recently acquired locomotive would fit in there too.

If all goes to plan I'll also be building one or the other (or both!) of these either in the Scandinavia SiG if that happens or in the Tracks & Wings GB in the second half of the year.




These are big-box kits so I'm hoping they'll help to make me feel like I'm knocking holes in the stash pile, the only problem is that they'll also produce fairly large end results so I'll have to rearrange shelf space to get them on display somewhere.

And of course I'll be looking forward to the resurrected Sci Fi Sig if that happens.

2018 was a strange build year for me. I knocked out 8 or so models by April, then only finished 2 throughout the rest of the year. That was mostly due to moving house, getting married and work obligations. Over the holidays I was able to finish a Panther and I'm just nearly done with a KV-2. I hope to get to the F-14 that's been sitting on my shelf, as well as an F-20 Tigershark I have. Then also a lot of AAA type of things. I think they look neat on the corners of my display cases. Other than that, I'd like to finally finish my TBM3 which was supposed to be part of the Bomber build.

After my poll question I have decided to do the r2 and bb8 kit, have started that tonight
Primed all of r2's silver parts in Ultimate gloss black in prep for some aluminium to be sprayed in the next day or so.
Will get a build thread up and running soon as well

Turns out my local hobby shop is having a model competition in March. I usually attend these and do fairly well. Last one I took 1st, 2nd and 3rd in aircraft, 2nd and 3rd in Armor and best in class for Sci Fi. I have however never gotten best in show nor best paint awards.

So, in an unlikely event. I'm actually going to try for that prize. Generally I enter these competitions for funzies; and, it's a good excuse to goto the model shop. So, I need to choose between a P-40, Stuka, F-20 or one of my Eduard 109's.

Hey All!

It’s been awhile, so I guess my main goal for 2019 is to get back into building. The end of ‘18 was a bit of a challenge on several fronts; other family commitments, the holidays, a rough season for the Kings, and as I mentioned in one of my build threads several months back, a health issue that turned things upside down. Regarding the latter, everything is fine, I’m expecting a long, normal life with a few minor exceptions; but let’s not hijack this thread with that, if others are interested, I can start another thread.

As for more specific goals, I’d like to complete two builds I started last year. The first is still sitting on the bench, it was my SSW D.III for the WWI GB I’ve made a little progress since my last post, but not much; I really want to complete it.

The second is my Alfa Romeo for the Car and Bike GB. For that one I got stuck on the gloss white body paint, I may need to strip and repaint.

For new builds, I have this:

So I’m pulling for the Sci-Fi SIG.

And if the Scandinavian build comes together I hope to build something for that.

But it will be small steps, and the first goal will be to start reading (and posting in) the forum more often.

So, since I “missed” the end of the year, here’s hoping everyone had a great holiday season and that the new year is treating you all well.

I know 21 days into the new year is a little late to start setting plans for the year but here's mine anyway.

I have 8 Group Builds coming up for this year and I plan on really pushing myself to fully complete 1 decent model per GB and actually finishing on time.
I also have 5 more builds to do for my Dad and a work mate and I wanna complete those too.

I've already completed one for my Dad which I had major issues with towards the end and I finished that in around 2 weeks so it shouldn't be an impossible plan to follow!

My goals are to just get back into it and work on my skills. Currently I am about 90% of the family build Ford GT. Just need to decal it and clear coat and the kids will put it together. Behind that I have the Tamiya 88 Porsche Turbo. That one will be built just by me. I want to really get OCD with it and see where my skill level is. I can see a fight with dust in my future.


BTW your Porsche is amazing. What a recovery. I also went back and looked at your SE5A... wow! Nice stuff there

So mid February let’s take stock
1. finished the SE5A..like to do some more with figures and the other fuselage
2. Not touched the F40
3. Broke the front wheel / steering assembly on the Porsche and it is one step from the garbage can...back away, just back away
4. No touchy the trucky
5. Pocher Testarossa has been started and the interior tub and seats are leather covered. Enjoying this build
6. Space shuttle is still limp not touched
7. Lambo Gallardo bought and is 75% done, but on hold...had to order some decals as Fujimi shorted the steering wheel one n weather is too cold/wet to spray 2k
8. Started another build while waiting....Talbot Lago GP old school racing car for Paul’s open wheel buddy build. Having fun with it and bopping between this, the Lambo and the big Ferrari
So month and a half and ya well all bets are off now if I can follow a plan. I follow the mojo and motivation more so.

Update from me too:

F-14 detail painting is done, so once I've done a few touch ups I'll be able to start on decals and then I'll leave the undercarriage and associated doors (still to be painted) until last.

My Panzerjager diorama is painted and weathered, so just needs detailed. I can then finish painting the figures and set it all up. It's really sapping my mojo though, so I'm going to set this aside for a bit I think.

I feel good about the upcoming Tank Destroyer group build - I just want to get back to gluing some stuff together as it always boosts my mojo.

I finished the Mercedes AMG GT3 and a Stig model figure and have been puttering now until June
Then I start a Space project and a F1 build
As Tim said earlier, you just kinda go with the flow

I've had a slow start to the year... the SU-27 got finished and I bought ( ) and built the Aston Martin DBS for the Wheels GB.

Aside from that the Tiger is part built & painted (waiting for tracks & weathering) and the Jagdpanther is currently underway along with an unplanned jet on the bench.

Hopefully I'll get some of those finished off in the next month or so ready to clear the decks for the Sci Fi build for which I've also bought ( ) another kit.

Since the "No more kits" rule has already been stuffed up I've got something in mind for the "Wings & Tracks" GB that will require the addition of several more boxes

Well here we are well into May and I am kinda on track..ish
Not so much on the no new models thing
I just got a Kawasaki ninja Tamiya kit, a Fujimi Lamborghini Aventador, a Tamiya Ford GT , McLaren F1 Kit and two kits for the SciFi Sig to give away as prizes.
I finished the Mercedes AMG GT3 and a Stig model figure and have been puttering now until June
Then I start a Space project and a F1 build
As Tim said earlier, you just kinda go with the flow

Damn you Scotty..you made me look back at my list... No progress to date

It’s a work in progress, a roadmap, not an absolute defined plan.
It is funny to see what I was thinking the first of January model-wise for the year

It's all good, although it was a plan at one stage

The SciFi Sig is well underway with twenty odd builds going
Not mine mind you, but that is due to me stuck in a F1 car build
I will start Po’s Bandai X-Wing soon when it strikes my fancy
Hopefully get to the Industriamechanika kit as well “The Hornethopter”
Currently the Revell Williams Renault FW19 is coursing through my veins and has my attention
Trying to detail it out as much as possible

Mid July Check up time
1. Last push for the internal details of Revell JV's Williams FW19

I bought a version of his indy 500 car the other day...Revell donor Reynard and custom decals from Indycal in appropriate 1/25 scale





2. Bandai X Wing is flying along well for space sig...everyone seems to be ticking along nicely in the sig


3 Model purchases seem to continue...Tamiya Ferrari SF70H and a Hobby Craft Otter float plane plus a few more on route




Mid summer laziness continues and crazy hockey season try-outs rapidly approachith for my boy
Going to try and slow the model purchases but no promises
I have number of woodworking projects to do likely early fall so it will take from modelling

Errr.. After a few years hiatus, and a move, my goal is to figure out how to make space for the bench, in a way the twins can't reach anything. Not easy, since the reach of a 3-year old, seems to be infinite....

Looking back at my original list on this thread, I don't appear to have made much of a dent in it...

The F-14 is now mostly decalled, but still needs undercarriage, weapons and a bit of weathering.
The Martlet is still in the same place on my desk, untouched since last year.
The phantom will not be getting worked on any time soon.

I did however finish the Panzerjager diorama, joined in and completed a build for the Tank Destroyer build, and am halfway through painting a Revell Flanker.
