I was really struggling last year to get any beach time, work was just a bloody nightmare

I had very little time and doing build logs was just the step too far, my plan was build without the log just for me and post up the finished model. Not ideal or what I wanted but it was this or nothing so I started this kit back in May last year......May! I thought get it finished late Autumn er wrong, Christmas er wrong, I moved house all very short notice in Oct, we all know what that's like I though I'd get time over Christmas hols to get it finished and start my Helo build er wrong new house family and endless visitors wanting to visit over the Christmas I got very little done. Jan 2020 New Year starting to get some time, long and the short of it, I finally finished it this afternoon

This is my first completed aircraft since returning to the hobby about 5 years ago, I did start and almost finish a B17 in the bomber build we had. You know what happen there complete disaster with the wash

Airfix, well having not built one of their kits for over 40yrs, I was pleasantly surprised with most of the quality of fit. Some areas are still what I remember of them, the way the undercarriage fits is really poor, it took a few goes to get it sort, of right The cockpit front screen is really poorly moulded, tried Gauzy made no difference, the sliding canopy is perfect. It's certainly not a Tamiya and not sure I'd buy another Airfix kit. Its also got cockpit Eduard PE and fabric seatbelts, like most of this you can hardly see it in this scale. The seatbelt aren't fabric they're paper instructions tell you to 'crumple them into a ball a little ball and nead it between the fingers'.....don't they de-laminate I luckily did this to only one. I've since found out, it's best to soak them in water and mould. I only found this out after I'd fitted mine so they look a little stiff

man if I could just do my hobbies instead of work, dad, pets....

If I may take a second. I love doing the build logs on the forum
I am getting older and honestly I forget what the heck I used, did, said who helped etc...so the log aids me greatly
I also enjoy the interactions I get with you lads
You cannot get this kinda stuff on FB

Thank you it was a learning curve, the cammo was quite enjoyable to do The cockpit PE is quite extensive, but in this scale you can't see 3/4 of it I'm really looking forward to starting the Helo today no PE OOD build

mate I was a bit drawn out, like you I have a real soft spot for WW2 aircraft I've got a few (Spit, P51D, Corsair) Tamiya 1/32 kits in my stash. I'll build a few more in 1/48 and hone my skills before I move on to them.

Scott life does get in the way at times mate, mine is just work, work and bloody work I too like doing the logs, but with so little time to build, the logs would have taken all the time, it was stopping me building at all. I don't do FB or any social media, just not interested.

Cheers mate, the kit is really quite good for Airfix, just not as good as Tamiya but I wouldn't put anybody off buying it. Someone with better skill then me would make a much better job I'm sure.

The early marks are so iconic, a true beauty and you have served up a treat there.

However, i disagree with you about not being able to see the cockpit detail from Eduard! I can see the IP and harness in the pics and they look stunning. They make the kit look like a much bigger scale, great work Sir. Thank God for the Spit's cockpit door, otherwise you'd see F*** All!

Really like the paint job and weathering. Some people find the early war green/brown a bit boring. Not me, its iconic, just like the aircraft itself.

I love the new tool Spits from Airfix. Light years ahead of their older offerings. 3 built and counting.

Great to see you finishing a kit and getting it up on the forum for sharing. We've all been there mate and its a reminder to us all that life can get in the way sometimes.

And the other positive is, of course, you now have at least one hole in the stash to fill and wont feel so bad when you get the "shakes" at a model show!
