Hello all,

I hope you are all keeping safe in these crazy times.

I'm an 'older' modeler just getting back into it after a hiatus of 40+ years due to kids and career and other pitiful excuses. My 'thing' is German Armour from WW2 and British Armour from the Chieftain onwards. I'm an ex squaddie that served on Chieftain Mk5 to Mk12, Challenger 1 and Challenger 2, and was fortunate enough to play with Chieftain 800, the Vickers Mk 5 and Mk 7; hence the interest in all things tanks. Happy to answer any questions on armour that anyone may have.

I've just finished a King Tiger and an Opel Blitz, and once their diorama is completed I've got a StuG Mk IV, 18t FAMO, 88mm AT Gun, PAK 37, and a Late Production Hummel to be getting on with.

I have a friend who served on Centurions for national service. He said the driver requirement was for a strong bugger as the clutch needed 70lb of leg pressure to activate the clutch.

I only drove one once but it was a test platform without a turret. Certainly the clutch was hard work and having the gearstick between the knees didn’t help. My overriding memory was the lack of brake accumulator pressure; so if you were going downhill and missed a gear, then you had 7 seconds of brake pressure.....and then it was directly to the scene of the accident lol

Hello Scotland Steve....

Your military experience as well as your modeling preferences sound interesting. It will be nice to see your die when you get it done. During my military tenure I was a project officer responsible for a unit training exchange between the 3rd Armored Cavalry Regiment (tankers and scouts) and 16/5th Queens Royal Lancers and the 4th Royal Tank Regiment. But thats a story for another time.
