Reveal: Academy 1/35 USMC AH-1Z "Shark Mouth"

Post by alextheblue »

Well, if I had to sum up my build in three words, it would be - damaged and horrendously late!!

The kits itself is fantastic and went together really well. The only thing that I had a problem with was the decals. The box claims to them to be Cartograf and whilst I have no reason to doubt this, they were extremely fragile. Every one wanted to either fall to bits the moment you tried to move it or to wrap around itself as soon as you removed it from the backing paper. The sharks-mouth around the front gun is about 10% decal and 90% hand painting. Not great, but you get the general idea.

The pics are a bit dark and whilst I could have edited them, I prefer to post them as they come out. Without further ado......

As I mentioned, I was horrendously late and missed the finish date by a mile, so apologies for that. Not my finest hour as far as modelling goes, but for my first helicopter, I'll take that.

As always, I thoroughly enjoyed the SiG and loved seeing everyone else's fantastic work. It constantly blows me away the quality of the work, there are some truly excellent modellers here on ISM with bucket loads of talent. I am most certainly not worthy!: : :

Thank you everyone that commented and took the time to drop by for a look! :cheers2: :th:

Excellent work :th: You've build a fine looking machine. While it's always nice to finish these things within the allotted time, it ultimately doesn't matter so long as you enjoyed it :)

Having just built this I feel your pain. I was given a heads-up about the decals so avoided the sharks mouth version and used my preferred warm water to dip the decals. Worked ok but seemed extremely thin?

Nice work, especially as it's you first helo - looks good

Excellent end result. And all the more so given the problems you had with the decals. Well done! :)
