No worries, I like the suggestions
I have all kinds of leather stitching tools (somewhere) including diamond stitching punches in a few sizes.
Those make the holes in the leather first nice and even and then you saddle stitch through them
Have to be the right distance apart for scale or looks weird...like the tape does

I have the same f40 1/16 fujimi kit. Its misdi g a lot of parts but I painted it black on black. Building it just like the f40 the gas monkey garage guys did. I'm misdi g the wheels and tires, the rear bottom valence, seats, all the glass and the hole tree letter A and front spindles , the front tortion bar. But man does it look awsome black. I did a 1/24 scale the same way.

I had given some sources and suggestions on your post about this...go have a look
I would buy another kit and try to duplicate parts. For wheels you should be able to find aftermarket especially from Radio Controlled( RC) sources
Good luck

Hey now worries
It is quite a pickle when you have an incomplete kit
Be careful when you look at the aftermarket replacement stuff..most is 1/24 or 1/20 scale

YA it is fun at this scale
My car mojo is low as I seem to have a fighter jet thing going on for some reason
Cannot find some equipment I need for the floor mats and it has sucked the life out of my energy for the kit
It will come back

Hi Scott just a thought on the carpet issue have thought about trying material that is used in dolls houses, our local Hobbycraft store has like a mini haberdashery section with loads of different materials otherwise what about flocking powder? just a thought

The kit box almost made it back into the stash closet again, but
Ha ha, found my Leatherworking tools late last night....basically right in front of my nose in the box they were supposed to be in while looking for something else :
So can try the stitching again for the mats....doesn't take much to pull one's mojo off a build

So true. Lately I've been on the 10 minute plan: do it for 10 minutes and either I'll get into it or I won't. Either way some work got done.

Ok holy blast from the past Batman
Look what is back on my desk!
I re-read the entire thread and am going to take this a slightly different direction
My skills are not the same, I have just done a 1/16 Ferrari in black so how about clear blue over silver  :
Image
ImageImage

Not a replica of that car, mine still will be black inside and no ugly nose or wing mods
So here we are, starting with focus to finish the interior.

I re-read the entire thread and this time got caught up in the loss of all the old friends who used to post on ISM
There are more guys gone than new faces joining, by far
It is really sad actually and I really do miss interacting with those guys, maybe one day they will return. Ahem @Lysus
But I have some new and even closer friends here now so I guess it all evens out

Anyhow, had a good day and got one seat carbon fibre’d
I honestly really like doing this stuff and love the decals from Scale motor sports
The 1/12 scale looks fine here not too big and not too small. I usually stick exactly on the same scale, but troubled times....

Image

Image

And on the seat with some rough stick it note paper used as a form
Image

This is going to Mr Danno...(when I figure out my postal system) as this is no longer a Gas Monkey F40

Thanks for the comments guys, got some more done on the F40
Wheels
I was trying out some gun metal paint, it looked ok, but flakes off easily to the touch

Image

So into the glass bath for a stripping
ImageImage

I got them all stripped and painted gloss black, added some brass for the tire valves as well

Then started in on the brake rotors
Image

Drilled out all the holes....and then found out after I drilled them all that the front and back moulded hole dips don’t match up to both sides :wall:
So I had to putty one side, smooth it all off and re-drill them.
Then they got painted bright gold. Get some photos up here soon, didn’t seem to take the finals of those

So then next the rear shocks
The stock kit versions are, well, shocking. Poor detail and minimal coil. Off that pathetic moulding comes.
Then I tested a wire wrapping, seen here with the kit shock
Image

Then I re did the coil.
I also indexed the left and right sides with a pin so I could tell them apart and get them into position

Image

Image

I have to even out the wire a bit still and paint the inner shock portion a contrast colour, but headed in the right direction

Here we go wheel finals...it is Alclad gloss black
I added brass tube fitted in rod to act as a valve stem...didn’t take any WIP pics of that
Gold Tamiya TS spray decanted for the brake disks

Image

Have taken to putting these sub assemblies in bags to avoid dust and me breaking something or rubbing paint off
Image
Hoping this keeps each sub assembly a bit cleaner and crisper

A rainy Saturday morning here on the West Coast of Canada.
I have Baileys in my coffee and waffles are on the make, so good time to post up yesterday’s work I did while watching the live show

Body seams and filling...yep scraping, sanding and filling started, wooohooexciting
Image

I attatched the rear wing to find a pretty darn big seam. The references show the wing is perfectly integrated, so some putty and sanding work to do
Image

Image

Then I did the carbon fiber on the door cards. I got a few more creases than usual, I thought this was going to be easy. But internal door, dark interior, I can accept those.
Image

So then some pics of the mostly finished rear clip
Image
Image

And some shots of the components together for the live show
Image
Image

Bonus pic: the cat is very concerned about corona virus. Woke up to this snuggled between my legs yesterday....

Ok this is still haunting my desk.
Just messing with some changes to the lines in the rear clip. Not sure why Fujimi has a line running from the top of one rear shock tower across the transmission and to the other shock tower....I find no such a line on any photo reference I have seen. So I altered it.

Image

Now I have done a spoon test for body colour. We are going clear blue over silver.
So I did two silver aluminums and one chrome spoon

Image

I am gonna let you guess which spoon colour won in my mind and yes it is the one with the most work and risk involved

Ultimate primer white

Black base Alclad down before we shoot chrome

I was gonna make it black originally, but did that with the 288 GTO
Letting the black set up and then go Alclad chrome

Had to get some internal shots as I go along and assemble as most of this gets covered and hidden as the body work is added
Lots of mods at the top of the shock tower with added metal ring, gold bolts and the blue anodized bolt :thumb2:

Image

Image

Front and rear coils were changed from chunky plastic shocks to painted brass shock and chrome wire wrapping.
Could have got the wire more consistent, but it is tough; either too closed up or too open and uneven

Image

Image

Image

Slowly getting the internals finished up and glued together. The rear window to cement in after it finishes with it’s dip in Future
Chrome on possibly tomorrow depending on my time, the weather and how the black sets up tonight
