1:24 Fujimi BMW Z4 GT3

Post by bfrd »

Well, this one is finished. Not great but finished. I love the look of matte cars, but can't figure out a good way to pull it off. The decals were terrible. I spent days with Ultimate Extra Strong and a heat gun. They just refused to lay down.

It does look really nice, shame about the silvering. I'd also love to know if anyone has managed to achieve the matte finish with the glossy decals over the top, a lot of 1:1 race cars are like that now, the Mercedes AMG GT3 that Tamiya based their kit on for example, the base colour is matte, but the vinyl livery is gloss, very difficult (impossible?!) to achieve at 1:24 scale.

Your build looks great though, I love me a Z4.

Love how the colour pops on the black! I'd suggest going for a semi-gloss finish rather than full-on matte. I did the Leon AMG GT3 a little while back and finished it off with Mr Hobby Super Clear in Semi-gloss. Definitely nowhere near the glossiness of a gloss but didn't have the texture finish you can sometimes get with a matte.

Nice work Matthew, even with the problems with the decals it still looks like a good finish.

There's something about the matte black race cars that make them look really aggressive.
Cheers, Neil

Dude!! This looks so good. Really dig the Matte Black finish on there, makes the car look badass! :pistols:
Stinks about the decal troubles, but eh, it happens and really it's hard to see in the pics.
I think you did a great job!! :cheers2:
