Hi all

Post by Parker »

Hi all,

My first post on the ISM forum, so, hello.

Firstly, wow, there is some seriously good modelers sharing their work & knowledge in here. In the short time I’ve known about ISM I’ve been reading through various threads and I’ve already learnt a tremendous amount, so thank you to those folks for posting.

I started modelling late last year having only previously done a few models as a kid. Those models made many moons ago, various WWI, WWII & more modern fighter aircraft took pride of place in this young lads bedroom. Hung from the ceiling by fishing line at various angles, pushed about to make them fly, admired, and eventually forgotten about to gather dust. Now, some 30 odd years later, one lunch time, out of curiosity, and to kill some time, I happened to pop into a hobby shop in the city (Melbourne).
Well… something sparked those memories and I got lost in nostalgia. So many planes, so many little jars of paint, so many brushes, another display of little jars of paint, and a hell of lot of other stuff that I had no idea about. This was serious. And I was in. And then 30 minutes later I was out, a bit lighter in the wallet, but looking forward to giving it a go.

That ‘first’ kit was a Spitfire 1/72. I immensely enjoyed building and painting it. I smiled to myself as the instructions called for a tiny piece to be glued somewhere, then cursed as it pinged off the tweezers never to be seen again. I smiled as decals tore and rolled up, unsalvageable. This, I remember is what teaches you patience. I enjoy the zen moments.

Since then I’ve completed a few more (Mig, Harrier, Raptor, Sabre & a BF109). I’m currently doing a Bristol Beaufighter MK.VI and thanks to this forum its easily the best so far. I'm even trying weathering!

Cheers all.

Hi Parker and welcome to the forum. In case you didn't know there's a great Youtube channel: ISM Youtube, a great Facebook site: International Scale Modeller a live show on Friday nights with great laughs, tips and hints and even free prize draws: ISM Friday Night Live at the Bench and if you have a webcam there's off-air hangouts where you can join live which I thoroughly recommend: Off Air Hangout Group

Don't be afraid to ask any questions, they really are a great bunch of moderately talented folks in here

Thanks for the welcome fellas.

I’ve just put the little dude down (3 year old) so I now get to crack on with the Beaufighter for a couple of hours.

I’ve been taking regular pics of this build, so, if I’m feeling confident about the end result I’ll start a thread.

Welcome!

Start a thread! The worst that could happen is you get a few good tips.
