hello guys,
stepping away from sci fi builds for a little while I had a go at building an amoured car for a change, this is the result so far all hand mad even the wheels please do not be put of by the half finished paint job I am going to try my best to give it a good finish with loads of weathering.
I did make a few errors along the way having begun with the body instead of the chassis, I wanted a build where I did not have to spend a great deal time just on the chassis but I ended up giving it some detail in the end because so much of it is open to view. Any way let me know what you think as this will help with other builds I have in mind such as a STAG amoured car and possibly a sherman tank in the future.

I've just found flikr myself and it has made posting on here sooooo much simpler.ive added loads to my McLaren thread.

Seeing how you did the tires is definitely interesting! Brilliantly simple enough but beyond what my fat fingers are capable of.

Yes I most interested in the tyres too. Your method at this point has very square edged flat sided objects. Do you have a solution or method to mitigate that ? Do you add putty then carve it off ?
Most interesting build and building methods has been inspirational, but not so much that I'm flying into scratch builds :)I'm a lazy beggar

hi every one thank you for the kind comments, I am glad that you like it so far as I say it may take a dive for the worse when I do the painting ( I can not paint as well as many others on the forum ) I just love to build. As for the tires well they start out very simply as just circles with holes in then and the rim parts and the the edges some times I make the outer edges of the wheel thicker so that I can file it down and get a more rounded shape or just slot the edges as I did on these tires. Here are a few pics of some I did some time ago for my big M3 half track model and willys jeep model .

by the way James I to am a formula one fan for many years and was lucky enough to know some who had a friend at mclaren international and he gavce me a model of the mp4 racing car a special whioch was made just for mclaren I will post some pics for you.

Nothing wrong with your paint on the car...lovely.....and the jeep tyres are great.

I have another question for you. I always seem to have trouble waiting for the cement to grab when using evergreen stock. It just doesn't seem to want to melt very quickly....it takes a age.
It's also lacks a lot of strength compared to the kit plastic. Is there a particular better cement for this work than what I use....Tet.

I have been using evergreen rod and tube and a few bits of strip which I was given and had no trouble about bonding, for the last 15 years or more I have used EMA plastic weld cement or solvent as they like to call it these days. It bonds in seconds and is very strong and enables me to build very quickly though on the down side it does evaporate very quickly and when bonding to two large areas I use a very big brush and work fast. I buy bit from the company as it comes in cans which would fill the average bottle 8 times or more, and when a bottle can cost £3 .00 or more and the cans are only £6.00 each they company do make a charge as when it is sent to you it is classed as explosives I got 4 cans delivered the next day for around £ 40.00 and for me this was a good deal. The main reason for my change to EMA plastic weld was that my partner Carol could not stand the smell of liquid poly it made her feel sick and I must admit she was right, there is very little odour from EMA I fill an old poly bottle and then use a paint brush to apply and a very thin brush for small areas, give it a try and let me know how you go on
us model guys have to stick together .

Thanks I shall try it....not always easy to find the EMA , but there maybe a equivalent product here. I shall check.
