Sponge chipping technique question

Evening gents,

I want to try the sponge chipping technique on a couple upcoming projects and I've seen it done in multiple YouTube tutorials. My problem is while I know what kind of sponge packing material is frequently used, I don't know it by name. With the wife and I both working from home since the start of COVID and all and Amazon shopping we've been doing I fully expected something to show up with that kind of packing sponge. But so far no luck.

I know when I was still building data centers our servers frequently came packed in that type. But all my servers are now VM's so I don't handle physical servers anymore. Does anyone know a specific name of this type of synthetic sponge? Or better yet, a link to the product on Amazon or a modeling site? I'd greatly appreciate it!

I would think any large cell foam would work, maybe even a kitchen sponge from Amazon???
EDIT; Car wash sponges on Amazon..those look good and are cheap

I found a package of foam paint brushes at Hobby Lobby really cheap. The Home Depot also sells foam paint brushes.

I use this technique sometimes and using a specific type of sponge is not really essential.

For example, I painted the chipping on the reverse of my Spitfire's prop using a kitchen scouring sponge.

Excellent, thanks gentlemen. Car wash sponge, kitchen sponge, and sponge paint brush. Off to the big, blue home improvement store to get all three!

The green kitchen scourer pads work too if you stretch them out.

For example, I painted the chipping on the reverse of my Spitfire's prop using a kitchen scouring sponge.

Thanks Scott, sorry for the delay in replying. With propellors, it's easier to paint the tips silver/aluminium then two thirds black, and then chip the transition with black paint.

I always used to try and apply the "chipping" with silver paint and it always looked a bit rubbish. Doing it the other way round works better (for me anyway).

Will try that...I did it dry brushing after.
Was thinking maybe a salt chipping on the spitfire wing by the door

scotch brite works very well green or brown gives good texture, I use a few different sponges and sometimes wire wool while working on weathering to get mixed results. depending on scale
