The Leopard 1 was the first tank developed in Germany after the Second World War. It was used by a total of 13 countries on five continents. Due to constant increases in combat effectiveness, it can still be found in some armies in the 21st century. From 1964 to 1984, 4700 units were built, almost 2000 of them for non-German armed forces. In 2003, the Leopard 1 was decommissioned by the Bundeswehr.
