Postie turned up and handed me this one this morning... I knew nothing about it
Image

Based on the paperwork it would appear to be a freebie from my subscription to Airfix Model World (aka Glue Sniffers Monthly)

Free stash... who knew!
Cheers, Neil

Some one - mentioning no names but may the fleas of 1,000 camels infest their itchy areas - seruptitously aimed me at submarines so this came today......

    OOHH that's harsh
Mind you I don't recall anyone twisting your arm buying old timey airfix :wall: :wall:

Bronco do HMS Vanguard ( Ohio class ) and that's available.

"Old" Airfix - no. Although in this case old is a relative term, to me its a fairly recent Airfx kit!
Someone did do a nice bit of reverse psychology though.......

Errrrr - the Ohio class were US Navy SSBN's.....
They would be the contemporary of the Royal Navy's Resolution and Soviet Typhoon classes.

    I should have said equivalent..sorry.
I just did a A1 search and that's what it said. I shall bow low to superior knowledge since I haven't a clue :wall:

Not exactly the postman... but one of the staff at the Local Hobby Shop where I display my models bought my Meng 1/12 MP4/4 F1 car.
      This one

Payment was in kits, not cash - turned out good for me as I would not have spent all the money on kits :th:
And good for him as his staff discount brought the cost down for him.

It totalled up as 6 fairly big kits. This is the first instalment...

In a moment of madness I bought this kit of the AA gun that never saw service. I'm not that wrapped in the quality of the parts, but maybe they will build and weather better than I think..who knows.

            Image

I didn't mind buying the bricks cause I'll be able to use them no problem.

The seller is saving on the postage, probably charging you X for parcel post then putting through as large letter, it's cheaper! It's happening a lot as things get ever more costly and tighter, I email them and tell them I won't deal with them again, if it was through Ebay/Amazon report them.

My big thing at the moment is Evri, utter crap I've had damaged, not delivered, delivered to somewhere not even close and sent a picture, left on the door step. I now email all online sellers if they use them I don't buy, if they lie which I've had I just won't use them again.

My new tweezers have arrived, a set with blunt and sharp points.
As you can see they are much thicker in the points and supposedly that will resist flinging small parts as the ones I have now will flex if too much pressure is applied and that is very easy to do and of course a fraction too little and the part is dropped. A very delicate balance to maintain and these being for the electronics trade are supposed to be good. No serrations in the tips to stop rod like parts spinning so the jury is out and deliberating whether the fool has been part far too easliy with $27
                Image

One off the wish list and the bridge (impulse buy) would go well with any kit too.

Two more subs - Hunter Killers - to go with the UK Trafalgar class, a US Los Angeles and a Soviet Alfa.
Now I just need a US Ohio class SSBN to complete the set - its currently proving rather elusive!!

Today 2 items arrived, a sprue holder and a set of glass files.

                  Image

As you can see the sprue holder has already been the subject of a screw up. I went to use a white paint marker pen to high light the markings and the top was a little tight and apparently full of paint. It went all over the sprue holder and caught the submarine base as well.....I was not happy

The glass files are very fine tools consisting of a 400-600 grit and 2 x 10,000 files made by the same company where I bought my new tweezers. I am very happy with the tweezers so far and in my opinion better than the Dspiae ones I have. Although the Stedi brand requires a fraction more effort to keep the tweezers closed. They do grip better and pick up flat pe from a face down position better and I haven't yet pinged any pe off to the never never with them although I have dropped stuff because I relaxed my grip slightly.

This came today - the 2026 Airfix club release. The last Viggen in Swedish service and the Tiger Moth. Oddly I have a Viggen from Special Hobby in the same livery although I think its 1/48.

Digger I really like the SAM kit, and you will really like the SBG bridger as I'm sure it is the same one from the kit I built.

I haven't posted anything for some time, but here is my latest addition:

OHH ...nice kit, it has had some really good comments for the level of detail.

My small box bridge has some drawings in the instructions how it was to be attached to a tank, so yes most likely the same kit.

The gecko kit I ordered before my little jaunt and the Junkers I picked up whilst there. It's not in 1/32, but a lot of subject matter isn't in era.

A few supplies also picked up whilst wandering except for the resin anti air gun platforms. Which I needed after launching a half completed pe gun set into outer orbit, I do think these are most likely to be in scale more so than the brass set.

I have yet to find out....not enough time or mojo to catch up to what I would have liked to build by now.
I believe they can be frustrating due to over engineering, small parts and part warpage due to the thin panels, but look fantastic once completed.
The Spartan though looks OK to me, part count not bad,no warpage, good detail and the parts size looks the same as any other kit.

Nice pick up on the t-35, not many built but they were used in combat along with t-28's. Which look similiar, but I think you might already be aware of that.

Been some time since my last update.

I broke down and bit the bullet to purchase several 1/18 resin items for my current AV8B Harrier project. Don't pay attention to the scale on the image, they are the only images I could find of the parts. All of mine are 1/18th.

                        Corrected and detailed fuel tanks:
                        Image

Full set of accurate weapon pylons:
                        Image

                        An ECM pod:
                        Image

And some decals, this way I'm not duplicating everyone else's OOB decals:
                        Image

Then I fell off the deep end for another bridge layer (this will be huge!):

My basement pool table has now become another model kit storage shelf, and it's already full. I have to stop buying stuff....

Managed to bag the Airfix 1/24 Harrier in an auction - £40 was that good or excessive?
I'm hoping its all there as its unbagged in the box...

Starting to be a few harriers around lately. I'm going to sell my Trumpeter 1/32 and buy a 1/48 Kinetic just because I don't like the level of inaccuracies.

Not being a expert on harrier prices I fell back on the easy answer and queried Ai

                            AI Overview
A 1/24 scale Airfix Harrier kit (typically the Hawker Siddeley GR.1 or GR.3) is generally valued between £30 and £95 in British Pounds (GBP), depending on its condition and specific boxing.

New/Mint Condition (Vintage Classics Reissue): Current Airfix Vintage Classics releases (e.g., A18001V) generally retail for approximately £60–£87.
Used/Unmade (eBay): Unmade, older, or pre-owned kits often sell in the range of £30–£50 on the second-hand market.

So yes it looks like you did well.

When we were kids my mate built the Harrier and I still have a kids eye view impression of just how big it was. Enjoy the build and the best of luck to you Sir. I salute you.
Its been tried and tested, it works! So don't blame the system if you're no good.

                            Great catch!

I was lucky enough to have built this as a teenager... what struck me was the weight of the thing with the engine installed.

Keep an eye on the nose gear tho, I had a helluva time getting that to be strong enough to support the weight - so much so that it obviously still haunts me today!
                            Cheers, Neil
