Looking for a good spray booth

Not to sure about bodging one from a cooker extractor though? but not ruling anything out.

This is long overdue here, mainly build 1/12 and sometimes 1/6 Motorcycles and also 1/32 Aircraft that can get quite big so need to bear that in mind, will have no problem venting a flexible hose where I intend to use it, it will go out the small cat door I'm thinking

Will be for airbrush use spraying mostly acrylics with occasional lacquers like Alclad 2, if I ever have to use a rattle can again I'll try to do it outside on a calm warm day.

Any recommendations and links (Ebay or otherwise) and something that has easy to find replaceable filters would be appreciated, or any other pitfalls I should be aware of I'd like to hear too.

I bought an Expo unit off of Ebay a while ago - very good - i've actually got 2 (long story) which you can join together to make a larger unit although i've never needed to yet and i've sprayed some pretty big models in it
i don't vent outside as the filter does it's job and i use acrylics rather than enamels (although i prob should)

Hi Graham, that looks interesting as it has an option to vent out a slightly open window where I plan to use it, like the fact its modular and I could add another for something bigger if needed, also it has a turntable that would be perfect for the model bikes, can you get replacement filters for it?

That vendor has sold a lot and has good feedback so that must count for something I guess!

Colin you simply cannot beat the graphic air as300, there approx £280 but I cannot smell a single thing in my workshop even when spraying alclads etc, awesome bit of kit, filters are easily avaiable although not cheap at £90 for 6 but it's unbeatable as a spray booth.

True ... just thought a filter would be a requirement anyhow ... dont know why, LOL.

That sale price is on for 7 days but I'm close to buying unless anyone has any better options they know of.

Out of interest Graham, what's the biggest model you have sprayed with it? trying to figure if its worth going for two at that price, especially as its free postage and all, thinking maybe two might be for big battleship use or something though? biggest kits I've got here are 1/32 SU-27, F-117A, P-38 size.

Would I manage with one do you think?

Thanks Paul, thats serious cash but I am getting serious about the hobby too and I went through the trauma many modellers did buying a cheap airbrush that nearly put me off for life before finally buying a good one and not looking back, no offence to Grahams advice there BTW, but decisions, decisions ... what to do?

I had an expo unit before I got the graphic air and while it works ok with most acrylics, it's useless for alclads and more potent acrylics like mr hobby etc, it also rather small I struggled getting some 1/48 aircraft in there never mind 1/32.

I've sprayed a 1\32 Sea Venom, 1\48 Merlin, HMS Illustrious 1/350, admittedly one end at a time but for the space and use its more than adiquate for my needs

Thanks again Paul, just looked at the vid in that link, does look very impressive although I'd have to make a base and invest in a turntable and light too, but sure looks suitable for my 1/32 Aircraft kits.

Has a lifetime warranty and free delivery, still need to shift my Nikon D3100 kit (a guitar too) that could go towards this perhaps? but that expensive purchase of Tamiya 1/6 Harley is coming up soon! this extractor could be a once in a lifetime buy though.

I guess filters are still needed to protect the internal fan motor from potential hazardous fumes and risk of fire then ... from that vid anyway or am I worrying too much about that?

You'd make a great salesman Paul but that's an important point, even airbrushing recently I've been getting fed up of fumes for a while afterwards with even tame paint like Tamiya acrylics (not to mention fine spray dust) I'll decide soon.

They need venting outside, or the filter just removes the particles leaving the solvent fumes floating around.

Called Graphic Air just now to confirm free postage applies to my northern post code and it does, so have ordered the GraphicAir A300S D Airbrush Spray Booth at £280.84 inc VAT and I'm looking fwd to it.

Will need to sell off a camera and old guitar to help build up the balance again, but that was always on the cards.

Might not get full use out of it straight away because the sort of mini patio place I want to put it is under renovations as well as other parts of the house ... thank the lord I don't have an "Er Indoors" to put a clamper on my plans

But the thought of no paint spray fumes wafting about the house for a day and lifetime warranty was the clincher for me.
