Cuban T-55

Post by ROBOPAUL »

Hi all, this is my second build since getting back into modelling. It is supposed to represent a Cuban T-55 circa 1970's. I have done it as dusty and slightly worn so as to improve my modelling skills. I appreciate that the real things were probably better looked after by the Cuban conscripts but hey ho. The kit was the Tamiya T-55 to which I scratchbuilt the fuel pipes and some electrical lines. I also made the tow cables from picture wire. Apart from that it was OOTB. It was a fantastic kit to build and I would recommend it to anybody wanting to build a T-55. By the way I am not happy with the rust on the exhaust cover (must do better next time) and the tracks are on the wrong way DOH!!!!!! Please be niceImageImageImageImageImage55/009_zps5b8c286c.jpg.html]Image[/url]

Love it!

But those aren't the exhaust, that's the cooling intakes (they'd get dirty too as dusty air is pulled across them). The exhaust is on the left fender between the boxes.

Shows best at 00:55 mark.

Great choice to make a Cuban tank :) The result looks stunning! With regard to weathering the dusty look is just right. They actually saw combat against South African armoured forces in the 70´s, the Cuban army went to several African country for humanitarian and support actions for communist parties. Can´t remember the exact circumstances right now, but i have this picture for you which shows a Cuban T-55 with South African soldiers posing infront of it.

iam looking forward to build a t-55 for years! have to order the tamiya t-55, cause your model looks absolutly great! i like the weathering very much.

the camo is intresting. i dont like the "russian green" tanks, their kind of boring.

NICE!

Awesome job! I love it - one of the best Russian-made Cold War era tanks I have seen.
