Sci-Fi kit news - Space1999 and Star Trek

Post by EpoxySniffer »

Good news for those with an interest in Sci-Fi models.

There seems to be a lot of older middle aged guys like myself here, so this may be of some interest to those who
watched Space 1999 as a kid and like me thought the Eagle Transporter was the business.

Round2 are re-issuing the old Space 1999 AMT Eagle Transporter later this year or the start of 2014. This kit normally sells on
Fleabay for over £40 so if you were thinking of getting one then wait for the re-issue and don't spend silly money on one. Even
the old broken models for refurbishment and repair go for £20-£30 on Fleabay.

This kit was not the best as far as accuracy goes but the more accurate Warp and Product Enterprises versions cost a fortune and with a bit of
work this kit can build into a decent representation.

Round 2 have also said that if the re-issue sells well then they will do a brand new tooling of a 22" studio accurate Eagle.

Another piece of interesting news is they are also doing a brand new tool of the Star Trek Galileo Shuttle, another kit that goes for
silly money on Ebay. So save your money for the new version of this next year as well.

Also noticed there is a re-issue of the Star Trek bridge kit being released next month and it has additional parts, so don't pay silly
money for the old kit on Fleabay either and go for the new re-issue next month.

Ooooooooo.
I'm a huge fan of 1999, I have every episode stored around here somewhere. I've always wanted an Eagle, but as you've said, they cost more than they are certainly worth (mind you, I found one at a thrift shop once for $40 Canadian, but since I never carry any cash only cards I was out of luck).
Is my nerd showing?
Thanks for that new Sniff!

if its a Re issue.... its still the OLD... kit ! or are they thinking of re-tooling it ??? cuz it was a dog then !!! and well.... it needed tones of luv to make it shine... especially the Upper Framing work...

I'm a big fan still, but at my age I expect a lot more than... a 1970 era kit to fuel my fancy ! LOL

but for the Hard core types... I am sure a re-issue will be just fine !!

Thanks for posting this info ! :cheers2:

Yeah, it's a pity it's just the old kit re-issued with a new decal sheet, which is disappointing. A new tool would have been brilliant
but moulds cost a lot of money and the market for Space 1999 models probably is niche and small and limited to us older modellers
who watched the show as kids. The younger kids would not be interested in this or watching reruns of the show, I did recently and
it is just too dated now to appeal to them. I thought ITV USA were going to be doing a remake called 2099, what happened with that?

It does need lots of work but I still think it can build into a decent little model with some effort. Personally I like seeing a dog
of a kit being turned into something special. To me that is part of the art and magic of modelling.

Lets hope this sells well and gives Round 2 the confidence that there is a viable market for a new tool 22" Eagle. In the meantime
those that want to put an Eagle together can do so without having to pay through the nose for a second hand kit or repair job
on Fleabay.

Even though I'm too young to have watched this on original airing I always like the design of the eagle.

Will have to pick one up and give it a go.
On the bench

Too much to list. !!

Maybe I was too harsh on my first comment!

I would get one if we ever start a Space1999 Group build!
I am too much of a fan to pass this over!

Eventhou it's an older mould!

Lenny, you will have to rename your channel as Surface to Air to Space Models if you build one.

lol.. yeah! I think we should wait until the kit is out too Norm. Agreed my friend. I also loved Space 1999 and to be honest if it was a pigs ear I would still buy it. :thumb2:

Cheers for the news EpoxySniffer.
