Academy Tiger II, Italeri Jagdpanther, Academy Hetzer

Post by andreb87 »

Hey guys! Again a new work in progress thread of mine! I really have to finish some models before I start building new ones :D At this moment there are 15 airbrushed models waiting for detail painting and weathering :D The Italeri kit was very very old ... It's not a good kit it is from the 80's. Both Academy kits were great! They offer maximum fun for minimum cash! You can build them directly out of box if you want. Especially the King Tiger is a great deal. I paid 25€ for it. I think the regular price in Germany is 40€. I used Hobby Boss Tiger II tanks because i didn't like the small transport tracks from the kit. I love the camo scheme! The octupus pattern is something different but i nearly got crazy doing that scheme. every single circle is a seperat decal -.- It took me hours to put them all on! :D

thanks for the kind words! i'm really happy with the newer academy kits they are way better than a few years ago! to answer the questions ... the octopus scheme was very easy. i used dark yellow and medium green for the basic scheme then i applied the "circles" (they are decals and are included in the kit). the hetzer camo was a lot of work. i used masks for the hard edge ambush scheme. the masks are included in the kit. i painted the dots by hand.

yes gary you're right it really is a top kit and i enjoyed it a lot! the masks are epic and for that price... everyone who wants to build a hetzer should buy that kit!

i'll keep you guys updated :cheers2:

Amazing camo work. I love the Hetzer. I'm wondering how did you do the perfect edge camo pattern on it?

there are masks included in the kit. with a little bit of patience and liquid mask you can achieve a perfect sharp edge camo! :th:

Hey guys some time has passed since the last update! i finished the detail painting and the pinwash, next step will be oil colour fading and oil paint rendering! after that pigments and weathering fluids! hope you like it! btw the decals seem silvering on the pictures : in reality they're not! :cheers2:

so let's begin with the academy tiger 2! you can see on the right fender there is a big painting error, the masking tape ripped off some paint ;( i will hide that with pigments.

Hetzer! I love that tank!

it's streaking grime for dark yellow vehicles from ak interactive. tried to remove it with vallejo airbrush cleaner but that didn't work! the streaks had about 5 days to dry so they are permanent i think ;(

The AK stuff, if I remember correctly is enamel based. VA airbrush cleaner is for acrylics so it wouldn't do the job very well.
Try a bit of mineral spirits or Mona Lisa Odourless Turpentine if you have any... though it may have cured now and is impossible to remove.
All that you could do is cover it with stowage or repaint the area.
