WH40K - Tau Riptide

Post by theunrealisticartist »

Here's my latest! Quite proud of this one as he marks my return to model making after a year long break and it all went surprisingly well!

Planning to build another one this year and I'll be posting a step-by-step for those that are interested.

Today also marks the re-launch of my blog 'the unrealistic artist' so please take a look if you're interested. Not that much to see yet, especially if you've already seen my other stuff, but it should grow quite quickly <fingers tightly crossed> : )

Well done sir - that is probably the finest Tau model I have seen, I often find Tau are painted too bright and clean, yours is more like the Forgeworld paint schemes but much better. The weathering is spot on for this sort of walker.

Any chance you could show pics of the army if you have one?

Thanks Dan! I really like the Tau but like you say they're often painted like a lot of 40k stuff, too bright and clean. I much prefer a more 'lived-in' look. It's nice that you made the Forge World reference as that's exactly the kind of look I was going for. Still some way off their best modellers but I'm always looking to 'level-up' with every build.

No army as I don't play, just paint. Not all the Tau models are as appealing as this one, it's one of the best GW make I think (might be tempted by a broadside in the same style though…)

My pet peeve with Warhammer 40K paint jobs is that most don't look like they've seen any action in a galaxy permeated with continual war. This thing looks like it's been to hell, survived it, and is ready to dish out some hell in return! Excellent job!

Totally agree, there's very few paint-jobs you see, outside of Forge World anyway, that aren't sparkly new and shiny. I set about re-dressing that balance! Thanks for the kind words : )
