That looks superb mate. What a great result.

Can you describe your weathering process post decals? The finish is so good, I'd like to pick up any hints and tips for my builds.

Top drawer Sir. Very well done.

Again, thank you for your input and voice of reason when i was a heartbeat from chucking it in the bin !

I'm not sure if i got lucky with the weathering this time, i suppose i'll find out with the next one ! After the gloss coat over the decals i just used the tamiya panel line accent, some post shading and just a patchy mist coat of tamiya XF-69 before the final matt coat. I did buy a few shades of oil washes to have a go at them but after the post shading it looked ok and i didnt want to push my luck with the untried washes :thumb1:

I was supprised how little yellow crept behind the cowl considering how much paint was applied to cover the pre-shading.

I'm a relative novice myself but you cant go wrong with one of Tamiya's recent stable. Their Sherman Easy Eight is meant to be great and they have a new Panther out too. I'm currently building their M10 Tank Destroyer which is a 2016 new tool. Its just falling together and the quality of the plastic is superb.

If you want something a little bigger with a bit more to it, their recent Nashorn SP is very nice (in my stash with some AM goodies) or smaller again, they have a nice Jagdpanzer 4 Lang which is another recent release. :th:

Had a break from it for a few days. Need to do the mottling which as a newbie to airbrushing is a bit scary.

I'm very slow when it comes to this Hobby. Life gets in the way too much.

Wow what an amazing build, even more so when you consider all the fit issues :th:

I've got this kit in a stash of models I bought about 10 years ago that stash was bought when I thought of restarting the hobby back then, it contains many kit's I made as a kid and those I always wanted to make but either couldn't afford or never bought. From memory it contains a good few 1/72 airfix aircraft, this kit, most of the 1/54 Napoleonic figures Airfix made and almost all the Tamiya 1/12 racing cars of the 70's those are all period kits.

They're probably worth a few £'s now more than I paid no doubt.

The mtltiple quote's are too much for this tiny brain cell left but again thank you boys for the positive comments :thumb1:
Nige, i cheated a bit with the mottling a bit. I used the needle stop to keep the paint constant and just kept moving the airbrush in and out from the model. You dont want a lot of paint, maybe enough that it takes one or two seconds on the one spot to get the depth your lookin for. Maybe try it on a piece of paper or something first :thumb1:

Gaz, you'll be done before you know it and you'll be able to sit back and enjoy it. I'm looking through the mosquito kit just now and it's a monster of a build, i dont know if i'd get it finished for the end of the tamiya GB.
I cant believe i'm thinking about this but it was my xmas present in 1976 and has many wonderfull memories for me so i will take the pain no matter how much !

Holy Moley I remember that box art. Never made the Harrier myself but my best mate did when we were kids. I was proper jealous. I made the 109, the Spit and the Hurricane. I got my hands on the JU87 in my 20s too but never the Harrier.

Good luck with the build - me thinks you might need it - Lol

Lol. Me thinks your spot on ! Had a dry fit of the fusalage sides and it's not looking good.

Yeah, like you i built the spit, hurricane, 109 and the mustang if you remember that as it wasnt as popular. And i have to say i dont remember any problems, we just built and painted them as was ! Were obviovsly a lot fussier as adult modelers. I'll see if i can find an image of the P-51 box art.

Guys, as John and I went through the same process at the same time, even though John finished his a while ago, we both had the same fit issues, I lost complete interest in this. I have to say this has been the hardest kit I have done in my 2 and half years of modelling so far. I don't think will doing another Airfix 1/24 for a very long time, even though I bought the Stuka at the same time, that will gather dust lol. Anyhow, finished it during the week, but lost complete respect for it after the first week to be honest.

If i'm being honest, it was definately easier knowing yourself and nige were doing pretty much the same thing. It seems to help with motovation !

Sounds like a plan John, just started the Revell Handley Page Victor on Sunday...not a lot of work in that..Phew!!! So yes, It would be a good idea to maybe have a go at the Stuka SIG, maybe do some more research on the Airfix version before I commit lol, but could go with the Trumpeter version possibly.

Superb. All those lovely extras will look awesome. With all that cockpit glass, they will really be on show.

The Stuka was a very nice kit if I remember right. Made it in the mid 90s and really enjoyed it. Its a bit big for me right now and I'm holding back for their new 1/48 offering. CAD pics Look nice with an engine and all.

The other one's are the "late" version, so as the Airfix Stuka scheme's are 1940 it will be the other ones you need. But I think only the rivet counters will notice
