Okey... There haven't been much modelling lately - I'm on vacation but this has probably been the most busy vacation in years....

I have drybrushed the leading edges of the mainwings, canards, tailfin and air intakes with some metal colours




And I have weathered the missiles and the rails


Weathering of the belly of the aircraft


The tip of the radome is made from a different material so it is gloss - so I mask that area before I put on flat coat.


And we can sneak-peek on the masked areas...




....but unfortunately I broke off the pitot tube again

Hello!

I have weathered the top side of the aircraft with oil washes.


Flatcoated with Gunze GX113 thinned with MLT


The tip of the radome is made from plastic so over time there is a distinct difference in sheen - I tried to replicate that

Sidenote: I will add the pitot tube the very last thing I do in this build - just to avoid more drama with that!

I might do some touchups of the weathering tomorrow and start with the final assembly.

Okay!

We're finally in FInal Assembly Mode now !

...or are we ?

The RS37 ejection seat have this wierd looking safety handle that is pointing forward when the ejection seat is in safe position. This part is not included in the kit, probably because it's too small to produce with ejection moulding.


But I decided to try to 3D print it

So I made a design in Fusion 360


And I filled the build plate with them to have a couple to choose from.




With black primer on - now I only need to figure out how to paint the yellow stripes


Cleaning up the rails and missiles, preparing them for assembly


I'm using a piece of 0.5mm brass rod as a guide pin


Landing gear...



This took me 3 hours to do

And it can stand on it's own!

The splinter pattern camo is awesome and the weathering just brings it all to life

It's a fantastic tool to have. It feels like the limitation right now is my 3D modelling skills - there are so much things that I want to do but I have no clue how to draw it in Fusion 360 (or any other tool)
But there are great tutorials on the Interwebs so I will probably learn more and more over time...

And the rest of the missiles installed too... Note to self: I need to make some adjustments to my rails so they fit better with the missiles

@TommyKillander how's the portrait treating you? Are you happy with the machine?

I'm in the market for desktop cutting machine. I've seen some on amazon but they are
over my budget. So I've found the portrait and it seems to be an entry level machine.

I wanted to hear your opinion on it. Because I was reading reviews and blogs and they
were all hype. I would rather hear somebody's opinion who has used the machine not
just trying to make a quick buck off it.

In my research I've stumbled across a different blog. To my surprise it was not what I
was expecting. Just take a look at this cameo vs Portrait comparison.

Is silhouette this bad? I get that the portrait doesn't have a bluetooth connection but
it can't be setup on cameo? So any tip will be helpful.

I guess that it depends what you are planning to do and if the price difference is a big deal for you.
Hobbies like papercrafting and scrapbooking has different needs than scalemodellers I think...

For me a small footprint machine that needs to be connected to the computer works perfectly fine; I dont need to run it off-line and (sofar) I have only done small things like cutting vinyl, masking sheet or thin sheet styrene.
The reason I bought my machine was that I wanted to be able to make paint-masks, and that I my main use of the machine.

The only limitation I have bumped into is the "resolution", for example I haven't been able to reliably cut circles smaller than 1mm.... But I doubt that any other cutting machine (except for maybe expensive professional units) can do that.
