Thank you all for your support and comments

Weather is getting a lot sunnier so likely this build will slow down a bit through the summer
Lots of outdoor projects for me to attend to
But I have not started anything else model wise, so I will keep picking away at her

Messing around with the rudder, painting and such
I watched a Japanese guy add coffee grounds to the hull to simulate barnacles and such…brilliant
Here you can see the line of them on the ship as Jack tows it
Image

Old coffee grinder still had some grounds left in her

Little closer up glued on with a bit of white glue

I have some green slime from AK I used on the Dagobah X Wing…sure it will come in handy here🤔

Starting mast cementation at the bow. The Bowsprit has been cemented and then it’s rope ‘gammoning’ has been added

Image

Image

Image

I have been painting up the bracing and railings up front as well…test fitting them on. The ropes for the anchors were also cemented into the hull.

More on the bow
Starboard upper dasher side is glued in now, testing the block I am adding for the cat head to help rope up the anchor

I was pinning these rope tie points down and in typical fashion discovered I broke something.
Thankfully I broke this belay stick thingy before I was trying to tie ropes to it
Image

So now none of the styrene pins are not trustworthy and I will make them all in brass, as I had been worrying about having to do
Image

and reinforce the cross brace with a styrene I beam

Just awaiting some primer and oil paint

The final length has some other determining factors so not tied off the tail yet

Next step before the rigging is setting the deadeyes to be able to take the strain
First I pinned the boards that hold the deadeyes. Two brass pins drilled and they fit into matching holes drilled the side of the ship

Image

Now just by this mechanical retention they will sit tight, so adding cement will boost that hold
Image

The wooden deadeye has a wrap of wire around it that goes through the holder and pokes through the hull
Image
I have a cover piece that will hide the wire and make it look like chain attaching to the hull below the board
Image

Here are all the supports in oil paint, drying out their first coat of burnt umber

Of course I pinged one of the grey support things off into outer space somewhere on my model room floor.
Cannot find it for the life of me :wall:

Image

When I counted, I needed 20 of them per side. For certain the kit will have extras of such a small part…nope
So I bit the bullet and made another facsimile from sprue, the one installed here on the left

Image

That’ll do pig, that’ll do

That is exactly right
I made it now as Today is clean up day so the floor gets a good vacuum…and that bit will be found by the suction

Saturday morning listening to Adam Savage videos and making deadheads
Twenty of them were blackened with oil paint and then wrapped with a metal wire

The starboard side ones are all roughed out and dry test fitted. Too early to lock anything down yet

For the rigging I think you mean if I will be using the Ropes of Scale...I just did the order yesterday as he is back from vacation
I tried to calcualte out how much rope lengths I would need and then added another spool so hopefully have enought
The other thing is do you do full sails or tied up sails

I think Captain Jack Sparrow would have sold what was left of his soul for the ship in the last photo. :) Unless much mistaken thats HMS Victory - 100 gun 1st rate ship of the line.

The cat’s away at the ski place with the ladies so the Pearl can come out and sit on a lazy Susan rotating base out in the open on a cabinet.
The masts are now all roped up and painted. They can go on when the rigging starts as they are cumbersome.
Image

I have started to add the cannons and they will get roped in with a breech line. I might skip the plastic block and tackle as it is pretty phoney looking and just messes up the deck
This is my reference

The foredeck has its railing rope done
As pirates always say, “safety be first, Arrrr”

Image

Image

My thread size reference
Image

Tied cannons. These are small diameter ropes and a bit fiddly.
I cheated and did just a normal knot and some ca glue, no wrappings at this small and difficult access.
