Scott, that is exactly what i was thinking buddy.... That picture is where i think your build is heading. Your brass soldering skills are all there, those lights and the camera are spot on.
Some simple rigging and led lighting should be manageable i reckon.. for you...
Of course, you build is awesome enough without killing yourself as you so rightly put..... but it would be uber-cool if it looked like the scene in the picture.

I too have been busy with my build after you called me out with the lighting idea...
My lighting design has changed too over the past day or so... I'll show ya...

Started detail panelling, think these are supposed to be engine thruster flaps..



Then started detail panelling up both sides of both top and bottom engine towers..









I lined my lighting idea with foil but later scrapped this whole idea for a better one...





Roughly marked the lighting backplate which will house the blue LED's.



This was idea 1....





But i wasn't happy with the light it cast on the rear engine frontage...

So while i pondered the whole lighting effects i added some more detail to the underside of the cockpit neck/corridor.
Loads more still to do though...



More detail for the engine area...









Then it was the turn of the escape hatch corridors to detail.. Loads again still to do but its a start.....







Unfortunately, detailing the tops all the same was not correct so i had to adjust two of them...







Now we can skip back to this lighting problem....

I need to open up the rear engines to allow loads of light to flood almost all of the engine grill area, not just a thin blue line across the middle.
Lets drill out the lighting backplate and go from there..







The £1/$1 Christmas fairy lights are cut down and fitted for testing..









Started to carve out the rear end a little......











Better.......



Gluing the backplate in...





While that dries i will just make up the gun turret glazed areas..













Okay, it was a new day and i was thinking about light blocking the main hull. Didn't want Blue to light the mandibles etc..





Milliput in all the possible light leaking corners...





...and added a protective ring inside the glazing to stop it breaking free once glued closed..





Masked up ready for a coat of automotive dark grey primer to help block the light..





Done.... and demasked..







Better....



Started with the thin plating for the turret tops where the gun emplacement goes.. Need cutting as per the lines drawn..





Quick light test...











Wires hanging out the front for now....





....and finally i made a start on building the gun emplacements...





Thats all there is for this update guys..... A little longer than i expected but everybody blame Scott for suggesting some lights... lol...

Okay, so another mismatch of updates on the Otana...
Starting with the gun emplacements top and bottom..
Got to carve and sand some shapes to get the gun parts ready to be glued together..







2x the parts....



Real small bits again...









Cleaned off the underside engine details as after checking my images i see that the underside detail is different to the topside with the flap detail..





Started to add some tiny details to the top and sides of the engine after clean up...























Looks rubbish for now but once it gets some paint and a tweaking it'll be fine I'm sure.....

Also, while working on the underside i decided to give armour plating/panelling a go, see how it looks as i don't have a suitable punch to make the square cut markings in the plating...







Gonna try and give a similar effect to this....



Ermmm....









Well.... errmmm.... not quite, but close... If i had a square punch or was working in a larger scale it would look better i'm sure..
I will see how i feel in a few days, i may get some filler out and make some of the cut shapes smaller and squarer...

Oh well, that's another quick update guys...

Spent today hacking some old circuit board up, building a styrene box and hot gluing it all together.
Then Dark grey Auto primer Ta-Da.... Possible display base....
I'll share some images soon to show you guys what I'm on about...

So as mentioned in my last post, I have been toying with the idea of something to mount the Otana on...
I decided a while back that a standard base wouldn't be right...
So..... Chopping up an old circuit board and hot gluing extra bits on i proceeded...
A styrene and steel box was made to house the electrics in for the engine glow...













Looks daft, but after adding a primer coat we have the beginnings of a base...


















So getting back to the Armour plating on the lower hull....













Quick couple of matchstick pictures for scale..







It isn't as big as you'd think...
Last plating section done for now..









...and we are done again for this update...

Thanks Scott, much appreciated mate. Yeah, scale does greatly hinder construction but for some mad reason my scratch builds always end up this sort of size... Crazy i know as it is so hard to build anything scratch wise with any detail at such a small scale.
Everything is either recycle salvage or plasticard construction. Not to everyone's liking i know, but i enjoy the challenge/frustrating annoyance..

So as i mentioned above, not a great deal of progress has taken place.. The beginnings of some detailing, some more armour plating and a look at the gun top armour plating..























Using my youngest boy's 6 inch ruler for scale shots to give an idea...



















Okay... so maybe a Blue Toy Story ruler was a little silly but.... Well "Mad Scientist" and all that!.... lol...

Not much progress "Otana" wise this week guys...
Started to add some more detail to the cockpit corridor and the underside hull and mandibles..



























The lower hull and Mandibles now just need the turret top and gun and the pipework cut and gluing in place.
Got some copper wire for the piping but will have to epoxy it in place to stop it coming off.
That's it for now guys, time is always precious in my house....

All the best, here's a quick update of where i am at as of now...


So as mentioned above, i have made a little more progress... Facebook ISM'ers will have spotted some shared pictures this morning so i best update the thread..
As i stated last post, i have some old twisted copper wire from some electrical cabling...



Starting on the bottom mandibles, i am going to make the piping that runs from the greeblies and into the inspection hatch areas..



Cutting off sections of the twisted cable and flattening and straightening it out with these little cutter things..







First side cut and shaped..



Slowly making the second side..









While cutting my mind wandered to other little jobs that needed doing...
Foil lined the engine bay..





All the bits are cut but i chickened out gluing them and worked another annoyance that was bugging me... Gun turret tops...



All the parts...





Bottom turret needs a trim up...





Better....









Thought i had better keep going and build the upper hull turret top too...













So this morning i grabbed an hour or so and mixed up the epoxy resin...



First side done...







...and both sides completed..











... and check out my teeny template to make the detail that edges the turret side walls and cockpit corridor sides...



0.25mm styrene sheeting to make the detailed pieces...





Teeny little pieces these... I must be bonkers..





That's all i managed this week.... Time is ticking by so i gotta detail this up and glue it together soon to get some paint down...

Thanks Frans, greatly appreciated mate... and yeah, we're all as mad as March hares... We stick teeny pieces of plastic together using highly addictive hallucination inducing glue..... Every guy here has burnt off a few brain cells over the years using that..
Just need a miracle to get it all finished before Episode VII release...
On a plus... Apart from weather and flat coat the Mossie is done...

Be careful with the CA glue dude... I always try to....
A. Avoid rubbing my eyes when working with the stuff.
B. Try to NEVER model Naked.... It causes so much trouble when you turn up at A&E.. lol.... ( Remember the American Pie 2 clip... Jim tries to watch a porno but ends up mistaking a tube of lube with a tube of super glue.. ) Its gonna happen dude, i'm tellin ya...
I got 2 weeks left to finish the Mosquito build so its kinda took priority, but on a plus, just weathering and flatcoat to finish..

Back with an update guys.....
Not a very big update really but an update non the less...
On to teeny detailing and it really drags and crushes the mojo and makes the build annoying and gives the feeling to just jack it all in and put it on the shelf..
Must perceiver though as Scott is waiting for the finished reveal... lol..

So i will flood the post with the usual picture-fest and list the bits and bobs as we go...
First up i decided to finish detailing the neck/corridor piece.











...and detailed using those teeny slivers of 0.25mm thick styrene. This curved detail is also present running around the upper hull/gun section....











Next up i planned on sorting the airlock doors etc.. Again lots of small styrene greeblies to look airlock-ish...





















Back to making those thin detailing slivers... I will show more construction pictures later on....



...and also made a start making upper engine section details and sourcing odds and sods to use...



Started to add the upper detailing slivers... 2 different sizes, 2 smaller lower at the front then 4 each side higher up the hull side..





Engine detailing begun too now to break the boredom a little...









Took the opportunity to finally glue the upper gun turret piece on now the side detail slivers are on..





More strip making for the lower hull sides... gonna save fitting for another day though..

















Yes... everyone curved by hand with a nailfile...

Found some teeny laptop speaker mesh to make some engine grill detail from...







These are going under these 2 doctored small child's train set wheels...



Detailed the top of the upper escape hatch corridors to match the lower corridor detailing..







Dry now just need trimming and fixing in place..



Teeny little things kept pinging off to feed the carpet monster.... Good job the tweezers are magnetic..













Couple more little bits of grill..





...and all detailed up top...









That blue tube pieces on the upper Escape hatch corridor roof is actually cotton bud stick cut up....



She isn't very big you see.... That is where my problems lie.. lol....



So..... I'm left with the upper mandibles to pipework detail, lower turret hull wall to add the slivers too then glue the gun top on..
Lights to install properly, corridor/neck to attach then close up the main hull....
5 weeks to do it in.... Easy as pie.... NOT... lol..

Back with an update Star Wars Fans.....

So, as Episode 7 draws near i am still battling with this tiny scratchbuild..
Detailing is such a bore at approx 1/200 scale. Taking 8 feet high at the smallest neck section. The overall length of the Otana is 88.57 feet.
This actually puts my build 7.5 feet short of the book specifications but i ain't bothered, its close enough at this scale..

So, what have i been up to with my limited build time??
Details..... and we haven't even started on the side walls yet....

So i take a spare bomb from the Mosquito build and make the deflector things on the upper hull...







While planning my next move i made a start building the cockpit framework...





Then i got stuck so dropped back to sticking the slivers on the lower hull upper turret wall as i did the upper hull...













Then buttoned it up....









Scary part now...... Out with the drill to make a hole for the tube to mount the build and house the wires for the engines..







Slotted the lights in but before i wire them up i chose to detail the inner mandible walls where the cockpit neck tunnel will be...



Building details... 1/200 scale..























Another scare time...... The soldering iron is out...





Did i mention my soldering skills are rubbish?

All taped and the smaller wire fed down the brass tubing..



Ta-Da!!...







More detailing...









Tucked the wires where they need to go ready for hot gluing in place..













Well they still working....









Respraying the hot glue to aid in light blocking...









....And... back to the detailing...
Upper Mandibles time so gonna make some Sushi rolls outa sprue for the detailed projector things...















Teeny bits of detailing...



















Lining up for the Sushi rolls....













Teeny detail time again.....







... and tubing cut for the top pipework...







Final bit of inner mandible detailing while i prepare myself for the epoxy resin gluetime....









Taped up and gonna prime the inner walls and the cockpit neck....















Epoxy Resin time..... Sticky yucky stuff.....



Glued the neck in place first..













Now these pipes are all curly and bent all over on the upper areas so here are the much cursing and swearing finished pipeworks...









Last little pipework detailing.....



















So i have taped up the gun windows ready as my next idea before gluing it all shut is to paint some Mig grey primer then Vallejo off white to the inner mandible walls and neck piece. There is some small detail that needs picking out and it can only be accessed while not sealed shut...



That's it for now guys... about 3 weeks to go... Will i finish on time??
Bloody hope so.... its taken long enough.. lol....
