Well first thing this morning the floats went on then the front guns went on along with a few more small parts, made up the rear gun mount has been assembled and painted and will be fitted after all the decals are on. Started to add the Lozenge decals working from the tail forward which is already transforming her I think.

Really impressive build.
I particularly like the machine guns; fantastic detail on those. I think this is going to look awesome when it's done.

Probably not, but when there is a group it seems to go down quicker in any case I could always come back or trade up to Sambuca..

Yes they look like one bad move and they would break but they were suprisingly sturdy and took a lot of punishment. Thanks for looking in and your comments

All the major decals are now on just a couple of dials to add. That leaves some final assembly left along with the rigging for tomorrow

WOW!! Those lozenge decals really altered the appearance of this little gem (I must be honest - I thought for a moment you'd put the rudder on upside down!!

) I really like the outcome thus far -congratulations on a really excellent build!!

p.s. - on the subject of eBay - I was looking for something else today and some how - <cough, cough

> - ended up with a screen full of WNW kits. The one you are currently working on was up for £380!! I think if I paid that amount of money for a kit the wife would either kill me or lock the damned thing away in a safe deposit box!!

Yh there going for silly prices right now the Junkers D.1 I did not long back was around £80 retail but I saw one yesterday for nearly double that.

That sucks - BIG time..

I really feel for the employees having gone through a similar process with Ford of Britain. Long story - suffice it to say the management in Köln were referred to as the Fourth Reich at the end. Putting bean counters with no passion for the product in charge of everything is the kiss of death!!
This certainly explains why the kits have jumped up into the realm of silly prices on places like eBay now. I guess all we can do is hope the tooling/moulds and data are sold off to another manufacturer and become available in the future. WnW had some amazing products lined up for the future - I would jave bought that HP 0/400 like a shot.

Ah - this is the one I've been waiting for!!

Especially the rigging!!
The rudder on the Brandenburg still freaks me out, hanging down instead of going up. I have to wonder how effective it was!

I suppose it makes it harder for the gunner to shoot up his own machine, it is weird though. That is what makes this era so great, being such a new way of transport they were willing to try anything in the way of new designs.

With rudders to work properly they need a good flow of air over them thats not shielded by the fuselage so it matters not which way up they are as long as they work also as Digger has said it was also done to give the rear gunner a better field of fire. They added the stubby bit on the bottom to give the rudder more meat and if you think about it the rudder must have been pretty effective for manouvering across the sea before take off as the did not feel the need to add rudders to the floats that some sea planes had.

Someones been watching "Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade"....

On the subject of control - I have a book here made up from memories of those who fought in WW1 and WW2. One of them is from an RFC veteran There was a type of 2 seater called an RE8 which had a bad reputation for being an absolute bitch to control at low speed and land. This veterans tale recounts how one day he was sat in the cockpit of an SE5 at an aerodrome where an RE8 squadron was based and they heard the sound of an approaching aircraft. As those on the ground watched an overdue RE8 appeared, performed a flawless circuit of the aerodrome followed by a text book landing. But at the end of the landing run the engine cut out and it just sat there. Ground crews rushed over thinking perhaps the crew were injured or wounded. To their amazement both pilot and gunner were dead - and from the dried blood had been some time. So who/how did an aircraft known to be difficult to fly manage to navigate back to its home base and perform a text book circuit and landing with a dead crew???

Felix has had all the floors finished with more bits Painted and added. The inner fuselage sides have been cleaned up, painted white then the base coat of ecoline put on to start the wood effect process

Unbelievably nice work on the wood bits! Hell, on all of it!

As antiquated as it looks to us, people back then probably couldn't believe how technologically advanced it was.

Thanks for looking in and your comments Scott. I have found the wood decals do not like to conform to surfaces that are not flat so some cajoling came into play

but it all worked out in the end. As for that itchy wallet trigger there's nothing like retail therapy to give you a boost

Thanks for your comments Neil. Its more control cables for the rudder,elevator,ailerons and engine control rather than rigging. As for getting the kit I would get it as once there all gone you wont get another unless someone starts selling off there stash

Three quarter inch imperial copper was used through out this build where needed Thats why I like these kits so much its the small detail that they add and thanks for looking in

Thanks for your comments and looking in Cygnus the wood effect decals and wood wash effects turned out quite well in the end

Alas I seem to be too late - all I can find, other than the Gotha's, are Halberstandts and Hannover's. The Bristol seems to be NLA.
