Really nice work - as Digger already said those gun sights look superb, very delicate
digger303 wrote: Mon Oct 05, 2020 12:51 pm
excellent work with the gun sights.
Thank you, the sight are what put me off starting the kit the most....apart from the wingnuts that are glued to them. I do have a bit of glue to clean up, is a bit messy and one of the wingnuts went for a fly. Luckily though I found it back on the desk.

Don't know how you get the wingnuts to behave. In my kit I lost 2 to the vast reaches of the cave. Everytime I thought I had one inserted correctly my shaking hand would bump it out again....VERY frustrating.

I have been missing for a little while again. So here goes with my progress so far.
Painting, Chipping, Rusting etc.
Starting with the exhaust, I tried some washes over Vallejo Steel 71.065 but didn't look the best. Haven't gotten any pigments as yet, so I might add them as yet.

Wiped the washes off and went down a different track. The Vallejo steel, followed by a few light coats of Panzer Aces 70.822 German Camo Black Brown, followed by a few light coats of Model Air 71.130 Orange Rust, then a couple of coats of Life Color LPW-09 Orange Marks (liquid pigment wash). As you can see, I was very accurate with how many coats I sprayed!

A few scratches, dirt or mud at some point will fix it up a little better.

Next little bit was the timber on the gun platform.
I used Vallejo 70.876 Brown Sand for the timber colour, Vallejo matt varnish sprayed over the sand prior to chipping fluid sprayed over that before the olive drab (I didn't use hair spray as I just couldn't get it to spray well once decanted).
Then the usual, a little water, brushes, q-tips etc. to clean away the olive drab.
I did go for the lighter faded olive drab for the first coats and will be chipping the olive drab further with the darker shade using brushes and sponge technique. The detailing and extra painting is a little new to me so I practice on an old 1/30 T-34 to try things out first as I have a pretty good right arm!

Sorry there are no in between photos after the sand was sprayed, but here a few after scratching the olive drab off. Also, my photos probably aren't the best as yet. Working on it though!

Back again, I will catch up shortly with everyone's builds. The usual things getting in the way and requiring more time than building.
Will let the photos speak for themselves, I may not get this finished by the 31st but will see how I go.
A shame to cover most of it with mud

, still not finished that yet.

Have been busy as usual, but have continued bit by bit.
Almost there now, just some final assembly and a little more detail.
I am having a little trouble uploading to flicker (had a windows update

) and will post some pictures shortly.

Finally sorted out all of the settings that were changed with the Windows update
I know the time has passed, but it will be completed.
A few more photos with some more assembly and mud. I still might lay the windscreen flat for what I want to achieve.

Still going at this one
A little more assembly and a little rust added here and there, not too much though.
Just need to make a couple of masks for the windscreens to shoe the wiper tracks and a tiny bit more dried dust/dirt on the upper areas.
Need to find some more stowage for the rear box, but almost there though!

Cheers fellas!
I added the extra dust and may have messed it up a bit, see how it goes once it is all dry. I might end up leaving it at that then.

A couple of picks with the extra dust, turned out well once dry. Have built quite a few models over the years, but not to this level before.
So a few frustrating episodes so far, but none have learnt to fly yet!
I have frustrated myself with the masks for the windscreen, so I'll be leaving this one here as it is for now and sort it later.
A very big thank you for all of the comments etc. It has been my first "real" build with detailing, weathering and all of the little things which really make a difference. Many more to come as well!

Excellent build Matt

Weathering looks perfect. Its a big step weathering up a perfectly finished model as it can on occasion go wrong but you nailed it here.

Found it, Bronco Models do a British / Commonwealth crew for the gun.

Heard the sight is damn fiddly to get right on the bronco kit although a good kit.

Yep, the sight on this was the same or I should say the wingnuts were. Three escaped my tweezers at first, but after a bit of scrounging on the floor, only one succeeded in the end.
