So onward we go Front wheel assembly to the forks
I cut off the plastic tabs inside and outside on the forks and drilled a mostly level pair of holes through
This allows set up into the MotoJig for one, but strengthens the rim to fork attachment
et voila


I have a threaded rod that will run all the way across to attach the rim and an internal brass shim for strength inside the rim...showing you that opening rim with my fingers
You can also see the end of the threaded brass part for strong attachment of the front fender


This little Jigster vise has been awesome at helping hold small parts for tapping and threading


I am still considering a total rebuild of the rear arms and shock attachments...meaning I will stupidly likely do that too

Since your stepping up a notch you might want or need a nice bit of gear like this to make more possible.

End of my three day weekend and I got some big stuff done
I re-vamped the entire rear end assembly of the two suspension arms supporting the rear wheel.
Involved some soldering and a bit of swearing I think I broke half a dozen drills
Here the right side attachment is soldered and I am working on the left side. The brass pin is welded onto the tube. The pin goes six mm’s up into the plastic arm and then a copper collar goes around the plastic for support.



Testing the set up all loose goosey but it works
This will be much stronger and less likely to pop off than those little plastic pins inserting into thin styrene frame









So then I got her into the jig fully, though not tightened and buttoned up to be on her wheels without a support block.



Lots of parts seem to need to be dry fitted and best not to get things all glued quite yet. I wound up loosening the rear part of the engine mount getting the brass tubing in...that was ok as the engine was a mm too low and the air cleaner didn’t attach correctly; so now I can rectify that without major surgery or making parts.
Busy Work week ahead and likely just little hits of time to model, so glad I pushed to get her to here.

Ok so here’s a thing:



1/12 scale motorcycle is not the same as 1/12 scale for an R/c Car
I know this now, but it seems really weird. Shouldn't scale be the same???
I was hoping that working shocks could replace the kit ones...now I have to make some

excellent stuff scott, love it. Didn't know Tamiya RC was a different size for 1/12. Is it off a certain car or buggy type vehicle as they would look different on a bike
like the drilled out exhaust

I am gonna ask the live crew about R/C scale vs normal models...doesn’t make sense to me
The rear wheel’s arms are really tightening up well even in dry fit.
Getting the shocks ready next test fitted and ready to get a wire spring wrap.





And got the shock supports into brass and her up on her rims

Well, the shocks on an off road vehicle are larger than those of a bike I am presuming. So they would be larger even in the same scale. Thats my thought anyway.

looking at the spring in the background its about the right size for a 1/12 car so wont go to waste, I'm sure you could use them on another build scott

The 1/12 scale shocks are freaking enormous. No way in normal modelling scale.
I will do a photo compare Vs a 1/8 Pocher shock and show you...back in a bit

Got a bit done over my Saturday
Made a brass kick stand for her as the kit one WILL break the second I install it
Just two brass tubes and a flat....still some refining to do.



I attach with a Phillips screw, taking a page out of Tamiya bikes so that the stand rotates up or down

Then I did a bit of chrome work on some parts
Allclad chrome on the wire rims...as Molotow will be destroyed trying to cement the rims together



Also Allclad with a Molotow top layer on the fenders, air cleaner and top of the shocks
These get tucked away into my drying cabinet for a good week so they harden up and can be gently handled



The flat black seat and the Splash red gas tank are in there safe and sound as well
So will turn to some other things as my chrome hardens up

Alclad chrome looks good on the rims and a perfect choice, look like real ones

One of the other fun bits of adding brass re-enforcements is it gives the model a nice weighty feel in your hand

I added some filler and sanded/filed it all down. Some areas were tight and others wide open
I have them back in primer so I can Alcald them tonight
Spokes are great, rims suck

I have a similar problem with the Bentley wheel half's not giving a perfect joint. Does the kit say to glue the two rims with the tyre or add the tyre later, on the Bentley you add later.

Been plonking away at the Baja Husky
Re-did the suspension and the shock absorbers have been metal sprung’d
The running gear is all in finals paint now, rims glued and filled and pretty much all of this is ready to be cemented or screwed down tight.
I have lots of Molotow chrome parts in the cupboard hardening away until their cue for assembly

You did an amazing job on those wheels matey, not easy doing all those spokes and getting a smooth join on the rims. Alclad on the wheels came out great It can be a nightmare sometimes but you cracked it. Good job on the spring as well, much better

The Tamiyas have gotten a bit silly in pricing....as have most things these crazy days. But they are really good model kits
Honestly can say, I really enjoy building motorcycles and they display exceptionally well

She is up on her wheels for real now and off the jig
I have the red tank Splash 2k cleared and drying in the cupboard; the leather oil effect on the seat accessories also drying
Hoping to get her real close to finish this weekend

Splash Repsol Red and then Splash 2k cleared over the decals which I let set up and dry for a good week



The gas cap is replaced with a metal one...it is a watch winding crown from my little bag of small watch winding parts off eBay
Left is the crown, right is the kit part
