Really enjoying this build so far, I would even call it inspirational. While part of it is the quality of the kit and after market items, there is a significant level of craftsmanship being applied that lifts your build to a show stopper. Keep up the great work.

Progress has been a little slow of late as I have been involved in another (lathe) project, but I pushed forward a little more this weekend.

The cabin is now more or less completed. The seats, dash/firewall and rear wall have been added along with some of the components for the engine side of the firewall. I have added some more cabling around the roof of the cabin for the various electronic components, again artistic licence was used here to try and add some interest.

I added some chipping to the racking & steering column, and ingrained dirt around the footwells & floor, followed by a general dusting of sand pigments. I'm not sure if I'm happy with this yet so may go back over it again.







I couldn't resist a quick dry fit of the cabin, and as expected you will have to look hard to see a lot of the detail.

What an astonishing build, the paint is wonderful and all the details are highlighted!

Morning chaps, long time no post.

Life has continued to get in the way so progress has been very slow. I managed to get a whole days modelling in yesterday so pushed on.

Essentially I've been building, got most of the exterior bits done along with the rear load bay, turret and various associated parts.





I've also been thinking about what to put in the back so bought a couple of accessory kits. Not sure how much of this I will use yet.

More really nice progress.
How are you finding the kit photo etch parts?

Beautiful interior painting of all those details. All those extras will busy it up beautifully

Keith, the photoetch has been OK, it's very thin compared to a lot I've used so bends easily. The only small issue I've had are some parts need to be glued to two surfaces at the same time (like the lamp mounts around the corners of the windscreen) which is a little tricky but not impossible.

Thanks, yes I was thinking that the lamp mounts looked a little challenging.

Drums, the wait is over.

I've spent the last couple of weeks getting the rest of the parts cleaned up, put together in sub-assemblies and painted.





I had a paint spillage during the priming stage (luckily not on any parts) so decided it was about time I bought a lid for my paint-cup. Then I remembered that I have a lathe now, so made one instead.





With that in place I carried on with the colours.





So with that all done I just need to add a few decals and then get everything attached to the chassis, then on with the fun bit - Weathering.

Really nice work, that "sand" colour looks spot on.
I'm really looking forward to seeing this come together.

I got the main components glued together this weekend and the few decals applied, I've just left some of the smaller stuff off (aerials, mirrors, etc) which will be weathered separately and added at the end. The doors are just pushed on for now, I'm going to display it with them open but with them temporarily fitted I can weather the whole thing together, and protect the interior.





I found a bit of an issue, something somewhere is not fitted correctly which has resulted in the right side of the bonnet being slightly too far forward. No doubt this is something I cocked up during the build stage and at this point there is not a lot I can do about it. I'm planning on having the bonnet open for display anyway, and if it is closed and someone notices, we'll just say it crashed into a camel.



So I can now finally move on to the weathering. I'm going to start this with something new to me, spraying clay washes.

Good morning gents

I finally got on with some weathering over the last few evenings, in fact I got the first two stages done. I don't think I mentioned this before but my vision for this vehicle is that it's been out in the Afghanistan desert for a long time during the rainy Winter/Spring periods. In other words, Dirty!

First up was spraying the entire model with three tones of clay wash, which left it looking like this.




The majority of this was then removed with a damp brush, leaving lots of ingrained dirt and streaks behind. The front end was cleaned off a little more as I wanted it to look a bit more sand blasted from driving through the desert. This was followed up by a very thin oil wash round the bolts, fittings, greeblies, etc.





It does look quite stark now, but this will be followed up with a metallic dry brushing over a few areas, and then an overall sand pigment scrub which will lighten everything up.

Unfortunately that will have to wait a week or so, the dining room table is apparently needed for Christmas dinner, so everything is getting packed up tonight.

Afternoon all.

After a fairly horrendous start to the year I finally got back to the bench this week. This build was pretty much done bar fitting the last few bits, but one job was to sort out the PE ratchet straps, which turned out to be a massive pain in the rear end. With those done I got the stowage installed and strapped down.




With that done I glued on the last few bits, finished pics viewtopic.php?f=46&t=30051.

Pain in the bum or not, the ratchets on those straps look marvelous and even workable. Marvelous build all over really.
