NATO Tri-colour scheme paint help

Hey guys,

I today got my Meng AUF1 and I will paint it in the French NATO tri-tone scheme. Now I primarily use Vallejo paints for spraying these days, so my question is has anyone else ever painted a NATO tri-tone scheme onto a model using Vallejo paints, and if so, what paints did you use?

Any help much appreciated. I am aware than Tamiya do specific NATO colours, but I want to stick with Vallejo paints.

Well after consulting the Ultimate Paint Conversion Chart, and Vallejo's own conversion charts, I am getting a multitude of answers.

Tamiya XF-67 NATO Green, Vallejo Model Color 894 Russian Green, Vallejo Model Air 14 Gunship Green, and Model Air 17 Russian Green. Sounds about right on all accounts.....the Russian Green in the Air line seems a bit darker than the one in the Model Color Line, but otherwise once the weathering and such is done....probably won't be able to tell a difference.

Tamiya XF-68 NATO Brown, Model Color 846 Mahogany Brown, Model Air 40 Burnt Umber (looks way too dark to me), Model Air 80 Rust (looks more like it).

Tamiya XF-69 NATO Black, (this is where it gets interesting), Model Color 897 Bronze Green (WTF?), Model Air 21 Black Green (ok more like it), Model Air 56 Black Grey (again more like it....just doesn't have a tinge of green in it like the Black Green does), Model Air 79 Camo Dark Green (Again What the heck!?)

I have some old bottles of the Tamiya stuff kicking around for the Brown and Green, but none of the black.....so I am failing to remember if the NATO Black has a bit of green in it like the other colors suggest, I just remember it not being a pure flat black, but thought it was more on the grey side, than the green side.

Any thoughts? Opinions?

I went and found that Vallejo have added a dedicated NATO Black and NATO Brown to their Model Air line up so I picked those up. And in their primer range they do a NATO Green, so I have got them to try out.
