That last photo, seen in a magazine, also triggered an idea for a Diorama. Don´t think I´m capable of doing anything decent right now, but sure to hell I´ll keep an eye on this build
Great idea :th: :th: :th: :th:

I will be following this build for sure
I have a thing for 1:35th scale flying thingies
This is a helicopter that is not (yet) in my stash but it offers some great diorama potential
Good luck with your build

Thanks for the comments guys. for months I planned on doing another subject. The week before the start date, I changed my mind and was going to do the Trumpeter Hind. I then saw the Hip. I did some research on the Hip in Afghanistan came across the Images above and knew I had to do this.

the instructions start with the Engines, which aren't very well detailed but there is plenty of room to scratch build most anything you would want. since I plan on having the engine bays doors shut I'll leave it alone and just paint the engines the proper color and be done with them.

Started the CMK AM Pilots(I hope they fit with no problems) they look pretty good.. I also have the Door Gunner that came with the pilots but I'm waiting until I receive the Mini gun from Live Resin so I can ensure his arms/hands will matchup with the gun.

The engines mount to their deck which in turn is the ceiling of the cabin below.

That Hind would have been a big build
I am planning my build of it for the end of the year or next year
A huge kit allthough i didn't like the provided pe and i got a Big Ed set for the kit
But still the Hip can be made into a great model and with the figures you are using and maybe a nice base like some of the photo's are showing you can end up with a really nice build

Playing around with some initial diorama base layouts. I will be using the thermal insulation foam board. along with air dry clay, Vallejo' Earth effects sand.

I bought the base at Hobby Lobby. it's an Christmas wall sign.. they have all their Christmas stuff out already and it's all 40% off Cost me less then $10 and will work out well.
Image

Image

Image

I'll crave the edges of the foam aliitle and use Air dry clay there and sculpt the clay into the features I want. I'll also use some natrual rock found outside to add to the base

Image

Love this thermal foam board. I'll be sculpting it using a Lighter to get some gentle terrain features

Finishing off the engines. Sprayed them with Alclad, Steel and Stainless steel. There are more accessories to be mounted on them. After that, they will be done. Not going to do allot with them because they won't be seen.
Image

Moving down into the cockpit and cabin there isn't a lot of detail.
I picked up a roll of 18g twisted wire to use as cable runs inside the cockpit and cabin. I'll put some Junction boxes in as well. I'm Also making some basic bench seats out of flat styrene, for the side of the cabin. I also plan to add some storage inside the cabin from an Armor accessories kit. boxes and such.
instructions call for the interior to be Light gray. I'm using RLM 76 to give it a little bit of color vice gray,
Image

put a base coat of armor sand on the pilots. I think they will require surgery to fit properly.

Moving down into the cockpit. Using MiG's Interior Blue green.

Image

Mockup of the cockpit one side anyway. appears the CMK pilots will fit with no surgery. I plan on salvaging more(thinner gauge) wire from my old computer to use in the cockpit, coming from the Instrument panels and flight controls.
added more twisted wire and "junction Boxes.
Image

Still waiting on the Live resin Mini Gun to arrive before proceeding in the cargo/troop Cabin. Have to wait and see how it will mount with it's accessories first before I can install the Scratched built benches and stowage.

Interior cabin base painting is complete. Just have to spray some Aqua Gloss in preparation for weathering before proceeding in th interior.

Here is a mockup of the Interior.

Image
Image

bench seats I made from styrene are against the wall along with the door gunner and stowage.

Stowage is from www. ValueGearDetails.com great stuff this is the 1/35 set for Jeep Willys stowage .. looks very realistic Great stuff !!
Image

Mini gun is together.. I'm not a gun expert but I could of used some simplified instructions to put his together instead of guessing what went where :

Image
Image

going to have to jury rig the gun when ready to mount it in the door.

I agree, their instructions need improvement. But you can fairly guess where the bits go.

I'm surprised that you even got instructions.
Many small resin sets like that one don't even come with them.
I've no idea why they do that, it's frustrating as hell sometimes.
Still, it looks the part. :th:
That stowage looks wonderful too. That interior is going to look freaking excellent!!!
