Painting Sequence

Post by kruno59 »

Guy's,

Some advice pls.

When painting a metallic plane is it best to paint the metallic first then the black, red blue panels detc after - or the other way round.

Hope this makes sense

Cheers for your help

With a bare metal finish most prime or undercoat it with a gloss black so thats any black panels sorted, i would though probably paint the whole thing with the metal colour and then mask off the other panels and give them a coat of white first so that they dont show as metallic colours, at least thats what i did on my mustang and it turned out ok despite my best efforts!
John, whats on my bench? Usually a mess and a couple of different models a week.
My motto? I'm not lazy, just energy efficient.

Got a photo of the paint scheme you are going for?

I've started spraying and masking off the color first and doing the metal last on NMF aircraft. The metal paints are notoriously fickle about being masked and although you can do it if you detack the tape and remove it quickly, it's cheap insurance to just avoid it IMO.
