Hi guys
So this will be my entry into this SIG
As i was one of the guys who suggested a Buddy build to Paul when he showed his awesome haul for his Hind i couldn't stay away from this

So this is what i will be building

The very big trumpeter Hind
My idea when i got it was to make a dio with it , where some Spetznaz troops would jump out on to a battlefield
But when i actually searched for some builds i changed my mind about that
My plan is to make it like the boxart version
So a Tigermeet with all the panels that can be opened up in the open position to show stuff like the engines and interior

As for the after market

I will use this
The Big Ed set made for this kit
It has sets for the interior , exterior and the weapons
But it also has a mask set , not a must have thing but it saves some time as i am not a big fan of masking
Do not a big pile of after market but i think it is enough as the kit looks pretty good by itself

I hope to start this build soon but i still have a few other builds on the go at the moment
And as those are entries into GB's and a buddy build i want to finish those first amd make this my long term build for the upcoming year
But to be honest i haven't build a helicopter in years and i only made a handfull of planes recently
So to make sure i will get a decent result i will try as many things i read about in the FAQ aircraft book as that should help to give me a better result with more techniques and a better understanding on how to build a flying machine

So i will try to get this started soon

haha. I'm just guessing, but I take it that there aren't many kits to chose from that are worth building for the 1/35 version?
Seems to be a popular kit.
I'll be interested to see what paint schemes everyone goes with, I've seen some really crazy ones.

There are some exotic schemes for a Hind
But i decided that i want to keep it rather simple so i will go for one of the kit options
I had a look at some African schemes and decals but those had some intresting colors

That is what you get when half the world has or had them in their inventory ...way too many choises
I still want the Tigermeet version as that is more a display scheme so that will be a good excuse to open up all the hatches and show of what is inside

I still haven't started but as every one was making me jealous with those cockpit sets and other goodies i decided to get some more for this build
I ordered the Verlinden cockpit and interior , some sagged wheels and a pitot tube and black box set to get some extra details in this build
And some goodies for the various Eduard kits i have but those are for other threads in the future as i want to focus more on flying machines in the near future
AFV's are still my favorites but a wingy thing can't hurt every now and then

No still no update

but i actaully started building this big bird

i am still half way through looking at all the instructions and where to replace and cut parts and wich aftermarket parts i actually want to use as i have a Verlinden cockpit and a Eduard cockpit set
i don't have any decals for the dials so i will be using the eduard stuff for those bits and the rest will be the Verlinden stuff

I have made a small start by now but i think i cam put the first build update on here by tonight or tomorrow
i will see how things go and if i feel like doing a update or that i have something to show in a update

Hi guys
so this would be the first update for this build
i build up most of the cockpit
well to the point i still have room to paint it

But this is the progres so far

the resin seats with some kit parts
i won't use the pe seatbelts as i think i will do more damage to the seat then the pe will make up for

i had to fix these as i removed too much resin on one and damaged the same bit on the other

the floor of the cockpit had to be removed from the cargofloor
And some of the parts where build up
there where 2 quarted round thing that should go under the seats but they didn't fit
maybe my mistake in fitting them but i removed them

the shell for the cargo bay was build up

and the resin side panels where testfitted
i will paint those seperate so i can slide them in place later because there are windows that go in the fuselage and it saves me some masking and fussing about

the cockpit
not the best fit ever but it will work
i removed the interior of the pilots instrument panel to replace that with the eduard panel because i don't have decals for the dials and other details
so i think that part is my best option for it

a test fitting of the part i made so far

It is just about ready for some paint now
i will put the last parts that i didn't use yet on some sticks and paint them seperate so i can add them later

So that is all i have for now
i will prime it today and hopefully start painting it tomorrow

A part too check for fit is the centre cockpit bulkhead against the clear canopy. Both mine and Paul's needed trimming down

i needed to trim a little edge of the bulkhead to make it fit
the only problem i have left on the canopy is a little damaged edge at the back
but 1 or 2 drops of melted sprue filler will fix that
it is barely noticable but now that i know it is there i feel the need to fix it

Not a update yet but i changed my mind about waiting to prime the cockpit and interior
i will do the priming today but i have some more work to do
in a flash of stupidity i forgot to add all the non colored photo etch
so i will add that first and mask the windows so i can prime it
And i can start painting it tomorrow
wich hopefully doesn't take me too long

Those resin upgrade cockpit are insane!!
Freaking awesome looking additions.
I've been watching Paul and some of the other fellas trying to figure their way through Russian colour schemes and trying to buy the right colour sets since Christmas.
I don't envy you that, but it will look crazy good when it's done.

i take the easy way out for the paint
just a mix of aqueous colors for the greenish blue and the exterior doesn't come with proper callouts just light grey and dark grey
i have a lot of grey paints so i will simply pick 1 for each and be happy with it
but i am still in the middle of fixing my stupidity feom yesterday and am no finishing up the interior and i will do the wheel bays aswell
so it makes it easier to mask later on in the build
i still can't believe i forgot all the pe in there

just a little update for now
i was a bit distracted the last time i worked on this kit and i forgot all the uncolored photo etch
so i had to add that today and prep this build for the first priming and later the painting stages

So here is the build just before priming the cockpit and interior parts

the cargo bay doors
With the eduard pe on there
i didn't have to use all the bits as aome of the detail was already on the Verlinden parts

some pe mirrors for the pilot and gunner doors

because i wanted to build up all the interior parts except the engines i made the part that holds the rotor already

the black box was added
i think the instructions could have been a bit better but it looks okay

the rear acces bay and landing gear bay where also added
the landing gear itself will be painted seperate

the hatch for the black box
i decided to keep it open so i have a better look at the black box wich is usually covered by a mesh screen

and the landing gear bay on the right side of the fuselage

and the front landing gear with some additional photo etch
i glued it to the bottom of the interior where it needs to go as the interior part is easy to hold so that makes painting a bit easier

And that is all i have for now
i used some Mr metal primer on the pe first as i was given the tip that it makes priming and painting of metal parts easier
so i will find out if it works
i will prime it today and i hope to start painting tomorrow

Hi guys
so time for a update
i finished painting the cockpit and cargo bay and they are now ready for some varnish and weathering

I sprayed the greenish blue
the rest is brush painted

The seats and control sticks where added after painting

because i didn't have a decalsheet for the dials i used the Eduard photo etch for that

i used several vallejo modelcolor paints for the details
There is a bit of clear paints in there aswell for some control/waning lights
i used some mr metal color aluminium and covered with clear red and green from the aqueous range

The seats where painted with canvas colors and dry brushed with lighter shades
that was done with all the panels but i used light grey and buff for the green blue

the sidepanels

after looking at some reference i painted the wirebundles orang

the hydraulics or pneumatics where painted with alumium and dark rubber for the hoses

the interior was painted with light gull grey and dry brushed with vallejo ivory to pick up the details

And that is all i have for now
i will gloss coat it later today and weather it tomorrow
i don't think i will do much weathering as i am building a Tigermeet Hind so it should have been rather clean but a little wash and some chipping will make it look better then a clean look

wich part do you mean ?
The pe on the small windows in the doors maybe
if so i couldn't add those on the resin parts as that would require more cutting and work with the chisel to remove details only to replace them with pe

the resin has some nice detail but i wasn't going to super detail it
you could by replacing the tubes ,hoses and wires so they don't touch the walls
but the resin still adds a lot of detail to a other wise plain looking part of the Hind

Hi guys
so here is a new update
it may not look like much but it sure was quite some work to get it to this point

i used Mig productions washes
for the grey and green blue surfaces i used the dark wash

for the black parts of the cockpit and gunners seat i used the neutral wash

the dark wash was used here aswell

after the washes i used AK ultra matte varnish to finish the panels
i then glued the clear windows in the fuselage and glued the resin side panels over them

After that i put the cockpit part and the cargo part in the fuselage

and i closed up the fuselage
that took me nearly 2 hours as i had to press all the and could only glue small sections at a time or it would pop open again
the large block that is next to the pilots seat was blocking the proces so i removed that and it's locating pin and glued it back in later on
the fuselage fits pretty good but not perfect

this is the only real problem area that needs extra attention
some filler and some sanding should fix it
there is a seamline on most parts of the fuselage but that is nothing you couldn't expect
so a quick sanding should make that go away

And that is all i have for now
i think i will work on the filling and sanding today so i can go on with the build after that
even though i have some other builds i would like to work on aswell
but i will see how things go

it has some flaws bit nothing serious up to this point
So it is a nice kit to build just a bit big
if you want one i suggest keeping an eye out on ebay or the shops you order from or visit as it can be rather expensive so if you don't want to buy it right away that would be the best option

Hi guys
so i am back with a update
the build is still progressing allthough not as good as i would like

after i glued the fuselage i started to work on all the sub assemblies
starting with the engines

the main rotor in various stages of the assembly

the stub wings where build up
the lower part of the pylon doesn't fit very good
but they are not yet glued so i can still make some changes to make them fit right
they also have some nasty gaps on the edges of the pylons

the bulge that goes underneath the nose

the gun that sits in the bulge was build up
there where no holes for the barrels but i think i may use a larger drill bit and drill them again

Some of the other small bits and pieces

the metal replacement pitot tube was placed on the canopy

the tail rotor

Then i needed change of subject matter
so i decided to start working on the armament
it wasn't the best experience as i think they could have made them much better then what you actually find in the kit

i started with the pointy rocketlaunchers
i don't really mind the fact that there are no tubes in the back portion but the cone is empty aswell
these are the launchers i actually want to put on the pylons so they will need dome extra work as the holes aren't even round and there is nothing inside the cone either
i ordered some styrene rod to fill that and i will drill them later to make it look like there is a rocket tube in there

for the base i am planning i want several of the weapons that a Hind can use displayed on there so i build up these launchers aswell
and again i was dissapointed as the tubes where only on the front and some aren't round but egg shaped
so for these i will use the styrene aswell and cut off the kit tubes and put the rod through the entire launcher to get a actual tube after i drilled them

some of the other weapons
i didn't sand them yet as the the disapointments of the launcher kind of killed my mojo a bit

the stub wings where filled and fixed where it was needed
i didn't drill out the rivet details yet as i want to do that in 1 session along with the fuselage

the "booby" airintakes where build up and test fitted
there will be a very nasty gap where this part and the fuselage should connect
i will probably fill that with styrene scraps and smooth it out before i put the canopy on the fuselage

the biggest problem area was filled
but it still needs a lot of sanding as the fuselage halfs didn't line up as well as i thought they would
One side sticks out by abour .5 mm so i will need to sand that down and rescribe the entire area
But this is the only real problem area as the rest was fixed by just sanding down a minor barely visible seamline
and the rivet detail was very soft so i already knew i had to drill those before i sanded anything

And that is all i have for now
for the next update i hope to have solved the fit issues of the fuselage and have all the parts on it including the photo etch

Hi guys
so with photobucket looking like it works again i will try to do a update
since last time i finished building all the sub assemblies except the fan and 2 doors for the canopy
i tried to fix the pointy rocketlaunchers but that didn't work out very well so i decided to ditch them and only work on the launchers that i will put on the Hind wich will be the 4 flat rocket launchers and the Spiral AT missles

So here is the progres up to the point of painting

once the bottom was sanded smooth i rescribed it and drilled some rivetholes
after that the parts that go on the bottom where placed

the small wings and tail bump where glued in place

i then glued all the photo etch and small parts on the back

and the stub wings and antennas where placed

some of the reworked parts under the tail

under the fuselage there where some small covers

the tail received the photo etch details

the resin wheels where made a
there was a lot of pe for them considering they are just 4 wheels

the last hatches where build up

the main landing gear doors where placed

and the front landing gear door was placed aswell

the armament was build
i drilled out the tubes of the launchers as the walls of the tubes where far too thick

and then this big bird was ready fore some primer

some detail shots of the build up so far

So now i will take all the parts off again so i can prime them and later paint them
once the engines aand engine bay are painted i will build up that part first as the cover on the front needs filling so i want to do that first and then paint the rest
even though i am going to paint it like a Tigermeet helicopter i want to do some weathering ao i decided to paint the entire thing in alclad first ,then i will seal that is and paint the tiger scheme over it and chip it around a lot of panel lines and such
just to give it a worn look
most Tiger meet planes and helicopters keep their Tiger camo up to the point that they need to be repainted
at that point they would get their original paintscheme back

So that is all i have for now
i hope to start painting soon and get back with another update

Hi guys
so another quick updte before the painting really begins

the engines needed to be painted first
so i primed and painted them with alclads
i used Duraluminium for the body of the engine
white aluminium for the control box on the top
and pale burnt metal for the exhaust tube

the engine bay was painted with Aqueous H307 grey
i will use the same color for the camo later

the engines where fitted on the supports

the front part was fitted on the engines
as you can see it leaves a nasty gap

that was filled with a little styrene stripthat i sanded in to the needed shape

because the AT-6 Spiral missle launchers will be painted in the same color as the rest and they won't block off my access to the the rest of the wings i decided to glue them on their pylons

the Eduard masks where applied to the canopy and the big openings where filled with big sponges

the engines and cargo bay where masked aswell
i put the tape in the cargobay openings like this so i can still pick the Hind up during painting

then i primed the photo etch with mr metal primer
i tried this a while back when i primed the first parts like the cockpit and lanfing gear bays
it helps regular primer to adhere on the metal so it won't puddle so easy

And that is all for now
i will start priming the Hind with Alclad grey later today and later paint it with alclad Airframe aluminium
that will serve as a base for the chipping later as i want to make this build look like the Tigermeet it was painted for was a while ago
just so i don't end up with a brand spanking new looking helicopter

as i was playing around with the big T-34/85 and the magnets i ordered for it and i didn't feel like sitting in the smell of the alclad for a second day in a row

Hi guys
time for a new update
as some of you may have seen on the ISM facebook page i am done painting this build

So here are the steps i made to paint this big bird

after i masked it i primed it with Alclad grey primer
once that was dry i applied a coat of alclad black base
Wich is a base to get a better result with the alclad paint

next was the metallic paint
i used Alclad white aluminium for this
this will be the chipping color later on

then the light grey was added
i used Aqueous H307 for this
it is also on the main and tail rotor blades
I uad to make sure that the light grey would cover enough of the sides so there won't be metal colored parts between the light and the dark grey

then i added the dark grey
i painted it without masking the tiger stripes as i found 1 picture of the real Hind that i am building and that looked to be a soft edge camo so i doubt that was masked when they painted it
i used Aqueous H333 for this color

i then faded the paintwork a bit
just on the middle of the panels and i tried to keep it very light so it doesn't look too old
i used Aqueous paints but i can't remember wich ones bit i just picked grey tones that where a little lighter then the base colors of the camo

the tail rotor was finished with a bit of H3 on the tips and them unmasked

the wheels are painted in the saame color as the fuselage
the tyres are painted with H77 tyre black and i will dry brush them later as i forgot to do it before i glued them on the landing gear

the engine covers are painted with the same colors as the fuselage
Light grey on the inside and dark grey on the outside
the metal parts of the pistons where brush painted with mr metal color aluminium

the main rotor was painted light grey aswell as that was in the instructions
the tips have a small reflection part and for that i gently removed the paint from those places

I then started the chipping
i used my knife to make small scratches in the paint to reveal the metalcolor that is underneath the grey surface

the raised details on the wings where painted with vallejo modelcolor paints
i used red on the left wing and tail and green on the right wing a
You can see the chipping a bit better aswell

the tail light was painted with clear red H90 from the Aqueous range
i removed the grey paint and painted the clear red over the alclad aluminium

the gun was painted with mr metal color dark iron and then buffed to highlight the raised details

And at this point everything is painted
there are 3 parts that i don't have pictures for but those are the crew hatches and the cockpit fan
those are just black and dry brushed with some vallejo field grey to highlight the details
and they will be added later
So now the parts will get glued on the model

the wheels where placed
the interior of the resin wheels is different fron the kit parts ao i had to cut of a part of the pegs on the landing gear to make them fit

the engine hatches where placed

and the cargo bay doors

the tail rotor was glued on
it still moves but not very smooth so it doesn't apin when i spray a clear coat on it

the main rotor is just friction fitted and can be removed if needed

a look from the front

And that is all i have for now
i will gloss coat it later today and start with the decals
after that a second coat of Aqua gloss to seal them in and then it ia time for some washes
that will be a pinwash mostly as i don't aim for a dirty look
and once that is all done i will repaint the exhausts as they got grey during the painting but i couldn't mask them and then fit them as they barely fir through the fuselage so that comes at a later stage

The weathering will be a bit light
i don't want it to look dirty but i will.do a wash to highlight the details
and some smoke stains on the sides but nothing much besides that

Hi guys
not a full blown update but i made some progres and i think that i have a bit of a warning for the decals

The decals arw thin wich is good but the foil or film is put on the paper with too much tension
this means that the film has a tendency to curl up when you tey to pick them up with tweezers or like i do with a needle
i lost a few decals this way as they curled up in to little balls and i couldn't get them flat anymore
the bigger decals where okay but the smaller ones where harder to get on the model

But even though it was a pain in the rear
i got the decals done

the tail numbers appear to be crooked but they actually should be placed like this
because the Hind sits higher on the nose wheels then it does on the main wheels the entire helicopter isn't leveled when it stands on the ground
but if it was flying the tail would be further up making the decals look like they are level aswell

the other side is about the same
the only real difference is the lack of a small unit marking and the addition of 2 stripes leading up from the steps for the gunner

But once the decals where on the model they conformed very good
even without the use of micro sol they started to set in the panel lines
but i added some micro sol to make sure they would set properly
i hope to get a second coat of Aqua gloss on it tomorrow and if i manage to do that early enough i will do the wash later the same day
then i only have to repaint the exhausts and do some smoke stains on the sides
and then it should be finished i think
But i am already planning some new builds and i think i will build a second large scale helicopter some time soon
but i haven't made up my mind wich one
it will either be a AH-60L DAP Black hawk gunship or a AH-1W Super Cobra
but that is for the future

Hi guys
time for the final update
i finished this build today and already posted a final reveal for it

So here are the last steps i made to finish this build

after the decals i applied a second coat of Alclad aqua gloss
after that had time to dry i mixed a dark grey wash by adding some Mig prod. dark wash with cold grey wash from the same brand
i didn't want a very dark wash as that would make it look dirtier then i was planning it to be

With the wash done i applied a coat of AK ultra matte varnish
then i repainted the exhausts with Alclad pale burnt metal as i used it to painted them with this color before

i then removed some of the masks and placed the windscreen whipers

the black box wich is actually orange was painted but not weathered as it would stay clean
the tail bumper needs to be fixed as 1 point snapped from the tail

the canopy hatch and door where placed after i placed the pilots fan and the control sticks that i snapped off with the sponge i used to protect them from the painting proces

with some Tamiya smoke i made the smoke stains on the sides

i made the antenna wires with some stretched sprue and later painted them in the dark grey like the rest of the fuselage

the rocketlaunchers where glued to the pylons

and as a last step i placed the main rotor to finish the build

And then it was time for a bit of cleaning i made the reveal pics

i posted more of them in the final reveal

And that is all i have for this build
