Paint brush sets?

Post by CJSomerset »

My Mrs has just asked what I'd like for xmas, so I've already given her a list of kits to choose from. But I'd also like some better brushes. Any ideas for a set available in the UK.
Some days it's not even worth chewing through the restraints!

Well, there's always Winsor & Newton brushes, many of which are actually made in the UK. Their Series 7 Kolinsky Sables are highly regarded. I enjoy the brushes I get from a UK-based ebay seller called ABC Brushes. I think it may have been Paul who first mentioned them in one of his videos... Anyway, they also have a selection of sable brushes at a favourable price point.

Yep, W&N Series 7 are great...if they are out of your budget I can also recommend their University synthetic brushes. Last year when kolinsky brushes were absolute unobtanium in the US I got some of them (#2-00) to try as an alternative to the sacred rat butt-fur. I did eventually get my hands on some Series 7's but I still use and like these...they don't hold as much paint as the natural brushes but they all are still holding their points and I use them for little jobs, I actually got some more for weathering with oils/enamels.

Im hard on brushes so i go semi cheap, daler rowney from hobbycraft, not as good as winsor newton but they do the job and i dont get peed off when they lose their point.
John, whats on my bench? Usually a mess and a couple of different models a week.
My motto? I'm not lazy, just energy efficient.
