Hobby Boss 1/16 Tiger - to buy or not to buy

Post by Stokesy44 »

Greetings Brothers.

I've got a hankering for making a 1/16 Tiger but I don't want to spend a mortgage on one. I don't want an interior either as I cant figure out a decent way to show it. I can get this Hobby Boss Tiger for £70 on Amazon and I know its not as good but what do people think? Has anyone made it?

I've seen some reviews and it looks good if you don't mind the inaccuracies. Thinking of asking for it for Christmas, is it a worthwhile addition to my stocking?

All thoughts appreciated
Its been tried and tested, it works! So don't blame the system if you're no good.

If you want a super.detailed kit then it is not the best
The HB kit is a stripped down RC kit so it is not the most detailled kit around but to compare it to the Tamiya kits
The HB costs around 70 to 80 euro's in most Dutch and German shops
The Tamiya costs about 220 to 250 euro's at the same shops and are most often not in stock either
So as a base kit it is fine , well that is my opinion after building it but i did some modifications and a lot of after market stuff was added
I have a thread in the Big Tiger buddy build wich can be dound in the GB archive
Coen made one aswell and made a number of videos about his build
So if you want you can check those out and maybe it will help to make a decision
Cheers Mark

Hi Mark

That was exactly what I wanted to hear. I'm now going through the buddy build and drooling at the work you and the other guys did. I've also located the after market Zim and the MG barrel so far! I have got to get this beast now!!

You've set me down a path alright!! :cheers2: :cheers2: :cheers2:

You can use some parts that are made for the RC kits from Kaiten or Taigen (i think)
They will fit but need some work on the styrene to get them to work
Of you plan to use Aber photo etch parts.you will need to keep in.mind that most of them are designed for the Tamiya kits
I don't know if they make photo etch for the Hobby boss kit as i never had a look at the new stuff because i already had the other pe sets
