Italeri 1:48 Stuka

Thought it was about time I added a Stuka to my miniature Luftwaffe! And I haven't done a WIP progress for ages, so, two birds one cup I mean one stone.

The kit is one of these....



It's got spures and decals and a bit of PE, but I didn't bother photographing them.

There's not a ton of plastic but it all seems well detailed and so far it all fits. The box art Stuka is much more colourful than any thing you would make by following the instructions. So I quickly stopped using the colour call out sheet!

Started out with the cockpit as usual.







The pilots seat has come out looking particularly knackered



I decided not to buy any extras for this kit, but I did add some fuse wire to the engine as extra piping and HT leads





There's an "option" to have the engine covers removed, but there's no detail inside them except ejecter pin marks, so that's my next job.

Lovely pit. Don't see many quarter inch Stukas being built. Don't know why I haven't got one in the stash TBH.

Got some more done on the Stuka this week.

Enclosing the cockpit and test fitting the engine, every thing lined up well, but the wing root on on the LHS needed some sanding and filling.



Fitting some of the PE Using super glue as a filler means the gaps still show even though they have been filled!



More PE at the rear



Standing on it's own.......claws? and showing the new detail inside the engine cowling



All the building is done now and everything is primed.... so now the fun starts!

It was a right pain but I finally got the canopy masked (still needs some filler around the front section). Primed the top with a hint of green and the bottom with a hint of blue, then pre shaded. But my air brush didn't want to play nicely so time for a strip down and deep clean.

All camo'ed up and I hate it!

I used all the correct colours from the paint sheet but the Vallejo RLM70 looks more like a Grey and it's way to dark.

So I primed it up again and re pre-shaded and then threw away the instructions and went back to the box art!

Using RLM 71, the lighter green paint from the first try as the dark green. I went for RLM 62 as the lighter shade.



The water staining is from removing the hairspray to reveal the chipping.

Finally got found some time to get back to this build

Got all the decals on got most of the weathering done and I've started adding the finishing touches.

And only then did I notice how ugly the seam at the front of the cockpit was!





So a few minutes filling and an overnight wait X 3 and then I had to break out the airbrush again.
