1/32 f4 phantom

This will be my first go at a 1/32 kit, so we will see what happens, might need a little help along the way.
Here is the box art and aftermarket goodies, will add spur shoots in the next update.

managed to clear some floor space to take the spur shoots.

I am going to do the paint scheme on the box, try and make a start tomorrow, got to plaster the bathroom first, then I can crack on with the build..

Nice, Very NICE. A late navy big bird joins the growing pack of F-4's here

. You almost can't go wrong with a 1:32 scale Tamiya kit, so it sure looks like you have you haven't cut any corners or saved on expense with aftermarket thrown in as well

. That being said I can see no obvious reason why this should not build into and absolute stunner when she's done.

Sweet! I've got the navy version of this kit. Can I ask where you got your intakes from, and how much they cost? I'm planning on doing mine for this SIG, but I don't want to start unless I can get some intakes for it. I've read that they are the only real problem with this kit? Cheers buddy

Hi chief, everything came with the kit, I purchased it off eBay, I've seen some of the intakes for sale on eBay as well.

I got my seamless intakes from GT Resin. It's an EBay shop and Facebook operation. Their Facebook page is Modeljetparts. They are also on the large scale planes forum. I think Aires also do a set.

OK done my bit around the house today, plastered the bathroom ceiling and walls, now made a start on this big boy.

first up was the new engine in takes, this is what you get in the kit, wont be using the wheels. I removed plastic where the Tamiya parts would go as per the instructions and test fitted.

Next up was the resin engine exhaust.

That's all for now, god knows where I am going to put this when its finished its massive.

Bit more progress. Primed the exhaust cans with Alcald, then different Alcad metals where used.
I then dry brushed with AK true metal aluminium.

These are for the front of the engine which you can see through the air intake.

looks the part when done. I have the same problem with display space, i left the fin off mine and it's back in the box for now.

Thanks for the kind words everyone. Managed to get a early finish today so got a bit more done.
Managed to get a shot of the inside of the exhaust and show the PE parts.

Next up is the cockpit. Took must of last night and this afternoon to remove all the excess resin from the parts and then primed them with Alcald.

Quick mock up of what it will look like, a shame you wont be able to see all the nice detail when its complete

I have a question if some can help, with the cockpit kit is some thin film for the monitor display and goes behind the dials you can see it in the first picture of the cockpit what should I use to fix it in place.

I have looked at ref pic for the cockpit and I am struggling to work out the right colour, tamiya calls for mainly black or flat aluminium also need to know how to fix the film that goes behind the dials

To fix the film to the resin use thin CA glue. Don't forget to paint the resin part white first otherwise the dial detail on the film might get lost due a dark background color.

As to your question to cockpit colors USAF and USN phantoms had grey interiors.

Here is my Cockpit color list for the F-4

FS36375 or BS4800 (H308 and H334) Cockpit tub and instrument Panel base.

Side console panels and instrument bezzel's are Flat Black, the switches and knobs on those are a Basalt Grey or German Grey depending on the contrast level you are after.

Hope this helps you out.

Wow that looks great.you really can't beat the detail on those resin cockpits.
How are finding the instructions,the ones for the 1/48 scale seem to be really vague?

hi thanks for the help with the cockpit colour guys.

Spook, the resin parts went together ok bit of a bugger getting all the excess mold off.
I am not using the PE that came with the Aries, I am using the Eduard set it looks a lot nicer and the seat belts are a bit easier to make, will post a new update soon.

Another update. been working on the cockpit most of the week. still a bit to do.
I used the Eduard PE set for the cockpit as it looked a lot nicer than the Aries set that came with the resin set.
All the pictures were taken with a macro lens and show up everything you cant even see with glasses and a opti visor that's my excuse anyway.

The PE is in 2 parts a back with the white part of the dial and the front with the surrounds I glued these using PVA glue and placed a spot in the middle of the larger one to simulate glass.

The large red monitor was made with PVA glue and then clear red painted in top.

Onto the seat loads of PE seatbelts are a nightmare and are taking ages to do.

Glued the air intakes in took a bit of time to get them lined up properly, didn't have to use much filler and got a bit of primer down.

That's it for now try and get the seats finished over the weekend and get the cockpit in the fuselage.

that office sure looks sweet. Not looking forward to my Brassin seats now I know the seat belts are a nightmare to do. Love the tint on the radar scope of the RIO. how did you achieve it if I may ask?? Would like to get a similar tint on the front screen on my build.

Thanks guys for the encouragement.
For the Radar scope I placed a drop of pva (white glue) on it, let it dry and then paint some clear red. Hope this helps.

Hi, still trying to finish this one. here are a few pictures, the decals are crap had to order some aftermarket ones the Tamiya ones just kept disintegrating. All the walk area on top of the plane had to be masked and painted going to remove the only one on the wing and mask and paint that as well.

Thats It for now new decals turned up today so can finish them and then start the weathering, thanks for looking.

Don't freak about the decals..it is them, not you. Very frustration though indeed
Had same issue with my 1/72nd Phantom's, but luckily had two copies as an ISM member mailed me his old ones!!!
She looks really good as is. GOD she IS a full figured girl...dwarfs that very cool F1 car you have been hiding from us
