Akan Paint

Post by Augustus »

After watching the Live At The Bench show earlier and seeing Paul use Akan paints I might give them a go and just have a couple of questions for anyone out there that uses them.

Seeing as I'd have to buy it imported (unless anyone knows of an Aussie stockist) it doesn't seem overly expensive to buy the sets, am I right in thinking the bottles are 15ml? And I take it most people use the water based version. What is best to thin it with? I'm not buying anymore Ultimate (or any other) until I've 'thinned' out my thinner collection. I currently have available:
Tamiya acrylic
Tamiya lacquer
Vallejo
Mr Color Self Levelling
AK-Interactive
AK-Interactive/Meng Universal
IPA
and Water (You can see why I don't want to buy more at the mo).

From what I've read many people do use water.

Does anyone know if they do a modern Russian AFV set and the serial number?

Cheers

Here is where I get my Akan. http://www.lindenhillimports.com/akan.htm it lists all the sets they have, you can even buy indivdual.

I've just used them once for my Birdcage Corsair. They have a beautiful smooth finish, I put it on top of the Badger black primer. I thinned it with Ultimate, but I use manufacturer's thinner for everything else. It even says you can dilute with water. I haven't had much success with brush painting these though, but great for airbrush. They are 15ml. The pigment settles out pretty significantly over time and hard to shake back in. I prefer using the Badger paint mixer to mix it up before use. http://amodelforants.blogspot.com/2016/ ... sions.html

Thanks for getting back to me, haven't had time to look at the link properly yet, I found an online dealer not sure if it's the same one but quite reasonable prices.
