MFH 1/12 Ferrari 126 C2

Post by Modelfreek »

Hi guys,

Well, this is the first time posting about modelling anywhere so here it goes. I have been building scale models
On and off for about 25 years or so and have just gotten back into it seriously for the last 2. Sooooo..... I have
Set myself a rather large challenge that combines two of my favourite loves (aside from the wife 😉) Fomula 1
And scale modelling. So hopefully you all enjoy this build!

Ok, solidly sweet build!!!!
I am front row center :pop:

This will be a big girl when finished and should be better engineered by MFH than Revival kits
I love building the metal kits and the details that can be added are phenomenal
Please finish her off and post your progress no matter how long it takes; many seem to start these and then it just ends...

Lol you're not wrong there @Twokidsnosleep! She will be a big girl when finished. The level of detail just out of the box is
Staggering to say the least and the only real additions necessary are purely OCD touches here and there. And I will absolutely push on till it's done.

What can sometimes be a bit daunting about these multi media kits is that every part needs altering in some way
To make sure it fits together perfectly. Not a fault with the kit, it's just the nature of the beast. The engineering is
Superb and precise you just have to play with th fit and finish. Also gave me an excuse to get a polishing/buffing
Machine 😂!

Loving this already. Yeah, as scott says, if you could keep us informed of your progress that would be much appreciated. I did look at the 2007 F1 ferrari a while back but would like to see how you get on with your build before spending the big bucks it would take to own one of these beauty's.
I wish you well with the build.

Thanks @Johnj, will do. I should have some pics of the front suspension finished with air ducts and breaks fitted this afternoon.
I will also let you guys know about any problems/tips as well. Speaking of which, the instructions do recommend that you
Dry build the "entire" kit first sans P.E and wiring before paint and finish. I thought sub assembly's would be ok like most
Plastic kits but no. They mean what they say as I have come across small fitment issues between assemblies that are by
No means disastrous just annoying as it could potentially scratch polished or painted parts correcting but oh well, live
And learn.

Ok, so the front suspension and brake plumbing are buttoned up and for the most part quite smooth to build needing
Little adjustment. The main challenge here was getting the MFH unique colour ( champagne gold) that can't be
Transported to Australia. Also why I can't get hiroboy colour range either. :wall:
Sooooooo, I had to make my own colour out of Mr colour solvent bases metal gold #9 and metal silver #8. The
Mr colour range are fantastic and very forgiving through an airbrush or paint brush. Very impressed.

Fortunately the Canadian government is protecting me from importing the noxiously beautiful Zero paints into my home as well
I certainly wouldn't want perfectly colour matched lacquers that duplicate the car's real paint so precisely..nope that would be too easy. :pistols:

Your mixes of MrC's look great...those paint are hard to get as well here
I hear you about the trial fits before paint ....did a metal Revival Bugatti like that.
I found after I paint and detailed everything, the darn thing fit differently again anyways!!! :wall: :bash:
Man that thing drove me nuts, but LOVE working in the metal, just the solid feeel of it is awesome

Thanks for showing and Keep up the good work :cheers2:

@ twokidsnosleep, I know right?! It's not like our OCD attention to details would let us be satisfied with just any old
Paint lol!

@ Johnj the level of detail achievable with white metal is just astounding. I've been looking ahead as I've almost finished the cockpit controls ( pics to come soon) at the engine + plumbing and wiring and I can't see any missed or omitted details from
The real deal so nothing to add at all. On some of the MFH kits you may have to source tobacco sponsorship decals from a third party but that's only if you want the car completely authentic.

Ok so as promised some cockpit shots. Fire extinguishers, main dash dials and steering wheel. Though some of the
PE for the switch box on the left side were so small and fiddley nearly got arced across the work shop after two

Ok, so stage one of this build is complete. The entire front end, controls, seat and harnesses are all done with some
Wiring added. So far no real issues to speak of and the new polishing machine is going great guns :pistols:
Should have done that purchase earlier but have to keep the wife happy  next..... (sneak peek at the end)

@Johnj, everything bar the steering wheel umbilical comes standard in the kit. I built that with some fuse wire and an
1/12 electrical connector from "Top studio". The rest just amazes me with the detail they can pack into the kit. The engine is
Sublime and is just a joy to build but more of that later.......

@Johnj, I get my MFH kits from https://hlj.com/
As they seem to be the most reasonably priced, I believe hiro boy also has a good selection. I would advise some research
On MFH's website http://www.modelfactoryhiro.com before you purchase as some of these kits are curb side and some
Are full detail. I know for sure that the 1/12 kits are full detail but the 1/20, 1/24-48 kits can be either.
Regardless you won't be disappointed.

I just have to start off by saying that I am blown away by the work done by everyone on this forum and that it inspires me
(And gives me some ideas 😉) to do better. And so begins part two of the build which will concentrate mainly on the engine and gear box as this is by far the most intricate stage. This kit does not like sub assemblies at all and so must go together and
Break down several times even before it sees an airbrush! So we start off with some polishing.........

Amazing work love the finish on the motor MFH kits are really hit and miss regarding fit etc I have the Rothmans 956 Porsche and it is possibly the worst fit of anything I have ever attempted, I appreciate they are not Tamiya but Christ the doors are over 5mm out.
Keep up the great work mate, and thanks for the birthday wishes :cheers2:

@RossiM1, I feel your pain there mate. I built an MFH 1/12 Lancia 037 rally for a friend a while back as he's a keen WRC fan,
And getting the hood to align was one thing but the whole front of the car hinged up from the front grill to the fire wall
As well! :wall: but I have to say, it is part of the fun of these kits.

Thanks muchly gents for the kind comments, really does motivate me.

Ok, so ran into a little snafu here as I was starting work on the gearbox and rear suspension...... :wall:
IMG_0794.JPG
I discovered that the instructions would have you attach all the engine gubbins then the gearbox and THEN attach and
Plumb the intercooler plenums......
IMG_0793.JPG
Ah.... no.... it would be impossible to plumb them after gearbox attachment soooooo....
I have to go back to the engine and do this first then attach the aaaaaaahhhhhhhh!
