Ferrari 365 GTS/4 Daytona Spyder

Post by Twokidsnosleep »

Oh hell, I am going to join the car GB
I cannot fiddle around for four months and not join the GB I voted for. I was planning the Repsol bike build as my first for January, but Gav has one well started here already and I have a hundred car kits to chose from in my stash...literally

So, a classic V-12 Ferrari...... beautiful engine, beautiful body

Image

Instructions and a broken body... the a-pillar and roof’s front cross member have cracked, both can be fixed
Image

Mass of sprues...the enthusiast kits are quite detailed, even this one from 1988. So I labelled the sprues with tape for easy ID. For this Ferrari Fujimi kit, there is no comparison in quality and detail to the Fujimi Porsche 928 kit I did last fall which was not an enthusiast kit and had little detail and poor engineering.
Image

Jumped right in and got the engine block started. Kit comes with a lovely little rotisserie engine stand...this will come in handy as I detail it up

Hi Tony :cheers2:
Ya she has a few parts to slot together. So far it looks like really well engineered and detailed mouldings.
I am not going to do a big long blow by blow thread like I did with the shuttles as everyone seems bored with those.

Not supposed to be building any models at all actually, am mandated to finish my workshop. Hanging an upper cabinet last night just about killed me and I don’t like where it finished out....bit too low and a bit too left.
Too much junk in the way to work easily yet pouring outside so I have no place to move it all and can’t fire up the table saw outside for some French cleats. Have a corner shelving unit and stuff to make as well...oh and a bench

Oh, those are little PE hose clamps from Studio Somethingorother that I used to do the three wire retainers
See what happens when I don’t do a blow by blow thread
Looking at my photo, lots of sloppy paint to clean up.
I have repainted the head black to improve the Ferrari logo dry brush

I loved this car in Miami Vice, absolute beauty of a car.
Used to stay home and watch that show Friday nights....now I just stay up on Fridays and model while listening to a bunch of nerds on the replay

Man, she will hear you

I AM working on the house, just my part of the house first with a paint rack for my workbench. I tell her I am practicing for her pull down drying rack in the laundry room :D I thought I had way more scrap wood than this to make stuff, but apparently not  :

Have to figure out what paints go where before I affix the shelving permanently.....hate bouncy shelves so not making them adjustable

This car is sooooo getting the wire wheels on her, far superior to the boring five spokes

Painting spoons to get the colour. #’s 1-3 left to right
#3 is my control.....yellow, red and clear
#2 gets yellow, clear orange, red and then clear red
#1 gets yellow, clear orange and clear red

The left two have the clear orange layer so far
Interested to see the variations

Hmm, lost a post there :
Fridgy, then I would be busted for sure...”he can’t come out until he cleans the bathroom “

From the first set of spoons, now I have painted #1 with clear red and #3 with x-3 red
Image

So #1 is done, kind of an orangey-red with pretty good shine. Next:
#2 will get the x-3 red next and then clear red to see how shiny the clear red gives over red itself
#3 gets the x22 clear on it
Clear as mud??? I wrote it all down so I don’t muff it up

Ya, I hesitate to even show you a photo of them all at their end stages
#1 is definitely an orange colour
#2 and #3 came out pretty much identical, just subtle shade

So I will likely go with the easiest and least likely method for me to screw up...leave it unpainted plastic

Wow... just when you said a a bit of orange in the color I went bask to view it and thats all see now is the hint of orange in it! I think when you mentioned X22 I missed that in the previous post when looking at the spoons. (hmm so funny how you can see a color in the spoon and then in a single word later... it can change it in a second) This comes to mind!!
