1:48 Airfix P-51D Mustang

Hello everyone,

Very pleased to present my first finished build on here, an Airfix Mustang. Lovely new tool, great detail and fit like a dream. I got a few aftermarket extras; resin exhausts and exterior PE from Eduard (sorry not very visible in the photos) and decals from Sky Models. I wanted to go a bit zazzier than the out-of-the-box schemes, so I went for a version of Pilot Officer C.E. Weaver's plane from 1945 for the crass nose-art and chequered propeller, and then added historically inaccurate invasion stripes.

This was my first time trying out Alclad 2 metal paints and their glossy primer and I think it went pretty well. I'd be interested if anyone has any constructive criticism or tips regarding that aspect, or anything at all really! My main regret is forgetting to matt varnish the olive anti-glare paint on the cowling before I removed the canopy mask, but other than that it's come out as intended.
