MG 34 question

Post by Nige99 »

I was having a chat with Paul in the shop yesterday about the above subject!

What colour is the material on the belted ammo on the 34?
What colour is the ammo tin for the 34?

Can anyone help me out please!

Interesting question!
I did some research on it, the colours are a bit hard to make out and differ quite a lot. As always when it comes to the Wehrmacht there is no real "right or wrong" as there wasn´t just one factory where they were made. Therefore the colours can differ from black to grey to greenish.
The picture below is one of the best i could find where you can see it in detail, but as i pointed out it can differ.

Found this hottie aswell during my research, suits the topic :th:

Yeah as Michael says, the colours varied so for the ammo tin you could go with anything from black, to dark grey, to German Field Grey (the greenish grey of their uniforms).

As for the belts, they were metal linked as shown in the pictures there, so again, any of the above colours.

Ditto. I will also add that the drum magazines and ammo boxes were sometimes painted in the field. I've seen dark yellow drums (original and reproduction) and boxes in my journeys. Hope this helps.
