How do you guys mask up for a camo?

Just wondering how you guys mask up for a camo on your aircraft???

That was a broad question since different camouflage patterns requires different techniques.

For camouflage like the ones on Spitfires I use Blu-tac. Faber Castell makes one that doesnt leave behind residues.

Well im doing a hawker typhoon so yeah thats the kind of camo i will be doing

I haven't done this but it looks really good, if you scale up the paint scheme page in the instructions so it fits the kit you can use it to get an exact camo ... like I said I've only seen it done on the web/in magazines but it looks good for some camo's

The way I go is with white tac - don't use blue tac as it will leave an oily residue on your paint!). Roll it into very thin lines and gently press on to the model and spray at a 45º - 90º angle.

I'll be doing splinter Camo on the bf109 I guess I could show how to do the white tack method. Or go look at Coens f86 build he shows the method on one of the first vids on the build.

I have done mine free-hand with the good old hairy stick so far. The majority of painting during the war the painting was done by the erks who couldn't be trusted with a spanner

It is probably white tac i'm using too, as the color is white

That's what I do anyway, have tried using tack before, and it was more hassle than it was worth. Mind that WW2 planes weren't painted using any kind of masking, so the camo would have had a slightly feathered edge anyway, so using masking tape, cut out masks etc, in my opinion, isn't really close to how they were.

If you free-hand it, you can take a pencil and lightly draw an outline.

Don't really fancy free handing it with my airbrush i'm only just getting used to using that haha
